CHIBUKU IS BACK THIS SAT 2ND JUNE!
Noise.

Deafening levels of ear-bleeding, speaker-shredding and downright ass-shaking decibels is the mighty pledge from Liverpool rave Chibuku Shake Shake for their first party of the summer. Where the shiny synths and brutal rock beats of the glittering acid house and indie-disco fusion face off against the grinding brutality of breaks and drum n bass. Hardcore hedonism straight from the underground.

Headlining this melting pot of intensity is none other than magpie production fiends Simian Mobile Disco. SMD was born out of James and Jas’s love for electronic music whilst touring with their previous guitar band Simian. So now it’s only right they’re going back to SMD’s club roots for their debut UK tour.

As Jas himself says; “We want the music to be heard in the environment that inspired it – a loud PA, early in the morning, in a sweaty club. We want the live show to allow us to improvise and mess with the tracks.”

Known for their ability to rock a crowd as DJ’s, SMD - James and Jas - have played everywhere from Club NME tours to superclubs like Fabric. Now with their debut tour beckoning and the guys stepping into artist mode as Simian Mobile Disco – the dancing is likely to get even more furious and bizarre on their UK tour.

Moving towards the release of their debut album, Attack Decay Sustain Release, on Wichita on June 4th, Simian Mobile Disco are bound to make friends all over the UK.

They’ll be joined in this electro riot by none other than Gallic kings Justice, who’ve done much the same but with that level of panache that marks out our cousins across the channel as that little bit more unique. Chibuku’s heritage is deeply wrapped up in the French sound, Justice’s label boss Pedro Winter was a veteran of the club in its Lemon Lounge infancy, and showcasing the latest tenet of the franco rave artistry is a natural gesture for the club.

And then there’s Fabio, the DJ who alongside Grooverider really defined the birth of the genre as it evolved from acid house via hardcore, before earmarking the smoother liquid funk template in the late nineties which spawned the more soulful edge of the music. Shy FX have done everything in the genre, knocking out dark jungle monsters in its infancy to sampling Sex and the City and hop-scotching into the Top ten in the process. Chibuku’s own Loz, Pumakain and MC SAS are all on hand to keep the flow going.

And over in The Bar Annie Nightingale also stars, a re-scheduled date after she was due to make her debut in April. The queen of breaks, Annie’s dedication to the format through her Radio One show has won her listeners across the globe and her dj sets have proved timeless snapshots of this. She plays alongside the Streetlife DJs and Liverpool deck master Dash as part of a YK4 session.

TUE MAR 27 2007
CHIBUKU SATURDAY 21ST APRIL
The end of April Chibuku session is a beast. Before you know it summer will be here, and heralding the beginning of the longer days and the hotter nights means some more top-notch sessions from the Liverpool institution. It’s a remarkable time for the club, having celebrated its 7th birthday yet somehow appearing to get younger, if that’s possible – an age defying reversal that has seen some of the busiest and best nights ever at the barfly and Nation.

Chibuku welcomes back Jon Carter, ace party starter and remixer, Jon's most noted work has been with the likes of U2, The Manic Street Preachers, Kula Shaker, St. Etienne and The Prodigy, with whom Jon toured as a DJ. There has also been a succession of remixes for less noted acts amongst them Whale, Ruby, 808 State and Selectah's Boogie Anthem "Wede Man". He’s still a very much in-demand DJ and one who is always full of surprises.

Then there’s the Glimmers - two peas from a rare breed of pod; both Benoelie and Mo are alight and burning with an enviable passion that so few people possess. It's the kind of zeal that keeps them enthusiastic about every gig, the kind of love that keeps them viewing their expansive 20-year career as nothing more than a paid hobby ("We are unemployed. We just play music."), the kind of fascination that keeps them still yearning to find the name of a record they heard almost 25 years ago (true story). Hailing from Ghent, Belgium, the party capital that later birthed Soulwax/2ManyDJs, The Glimmers both fell deeply under music's spell at a young age. The two were undoubtedly a likely duo: Mo, a rapt child dazzled by the scratch-coated records disposed from his family bar's jukebox, was avidly building his own record collection, while Benoelie grew from a family deeply rooted in nightlife and party culture. At the ripe age of 16, old enough to DJ but too young to drink, they found themselves gigs together at a local bar called Mistral. A few years later, their residency at a club called Fifty Five saw them sweating out 11-hour marathon sets every week; workouts that nurtured their flexible attitude and inimitable style. Most recently, The Glimmers have been pushing remixes and their own productions, each auditory gem equipped with the unmistakable charm of unfettered independence.

Finally Andy C steps up. A pioneering Drum and Bass DJ since the genre's emergence in the early '90s, he has consistently been voted World's Greatest Drum and Bass DJ. He specializes in fast mixing, often employing three turntables, and is known for mixing established classics with cutting edge releases. Andy C's record label RAM Records was started with Ant Miles in 1992 and is based in Hornchurch, Essex. Ram Records consists of DJs and producers: Shimon, Red One, Moving Fusion and Sub Focus. Some of Ram Records' most popular releases of recent times are Noisia's "Facade", Sub Focus' "Airplane", Sub Focus' "Swamp Thing", and Shimon's "The Shadow Knows". Ram celebrate an incredible 15 years of records this year making Andy’s Chibuku gig that extra bit special.

Support comes from Shimon, Subfocus, Futurebound, The Beat Monkeys and Tane.

TUE MAR 27 2007
CHIBUKU'S EASTER SUNDAY SESSION!
After the jaw-dropper of a birthday in March, which saw Nation at its very best and the Chibuku faithful raving on every cylinder possible, Liverpool’s best kept non-secret returns in April for an aural Sunday session making the most of the long weekend. There’s a spring in Chibuku’s step as it fast approaches summer and this gig typifies what the club is all about: it’s eclectic mix of live music, house, techno, breaks and hip-hop, mixed together as only the north west institution knows how.

Chibuku welcomes Vitalic for a live jam in the Theatre. With the seminal track "La Rock 01", Vitalic created a club anthem which was subsequently remixed by Sven Väth and a huge hit with clubbers in the summer of 2001. The track was also included on many compilation albums, even rock compilations, demonstrating the versatility Vitalic has. In 2005 his debut album OK Cowboy was released on Different/Pias. Vitalic states that all of the instruments used in the album are synthesized. His official website states that "the only thing he can't fake is the emotion that galvanizes his music."

Then there’s Chibuku’s friend Annie MacManus (better known as Annie Mac), the darling of Radio One. Having worked for Shine in Belfast, she completed her degree and moved to London, working for a number of small radio stations before moving to Radio 1. Before getting her own show she worked as a broadcast assistant and producer to Steve Lamacq, Colin Murray and Zane Lowe and now rules the airwaves with Annie Mac's Mash Up. One of Chibuku’s most cherished guests, it’s always great to have Annie at the club.
And Hot Chip make their Chibuku debut. Their debut album, Coming on Strong, was released in 2004. The band have played many live shows, including appearances at Glastonbury, Sónar, Benicassim, Electric Picnic, Bestival, Lovebox, the Reading and Leeds Festivals, the Summer Sundae festival and the Big Day Out festival as well as playing several North American, European and UK tours over the last three years. They have had two UK top forty singles - "Over and Over" in March 2006 and "And I Was A Boy From School" in May 2006. They received plaudits for the music video for "Over and Over", which was directed by Nima Nourizadeh.

Then C2C make a welcome return to Liverpool. Exploiting at the very maximum human as well as material possibilities (mixers effects, feedback, larsens...), the show presented on tour is out of breath for the listener. They link tracks and work on their own way hip hop and funk classics again, giving them a new birth. The denseness of sequences is cut by technical parts meant to underline individual performances. Routines give way to live compositions mixing turntables of one, machines of another or rhymes rapped by 20Syl finish brilliantly with the 6 minutes having made them champions of the world.

Support comes from DJ Noize – a great talent from Denmark and winner of the DMC world championships in 1996. He’s famous for his style of battling involving taking little snippets of raps in order to construct elaborate disses of his opponents!

WED FEB 28 2007
CHIBUKU THIS SATURDAY AT BARFLY, LIVERPOOL 3/3/07!

Just a fortnight shy of the birthday is another top-notch offering from Chibuku. It’s a great lineup at the club’s spiritual home before the action switches to Nation on March 17th.
First up is Erol Alkan, the London-based electro DJ of Turkish descent. He is resident DJ and co-founder of the recently finished London club night Trash. Erol also uses the alias Mustapha 3000, and is half of the psychedelic rock act Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve. Erol has remixed tracks from artists including Mylo, Bloc Party, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers and Digitalism, and his profile increased considerably during 2006, when remixes for Scissor Sisters, Justice and Franz Ferdinand helped earn him the Mixmag 2006 DJ of the Year award.
James Lavelle comes with great pedigree. In 1996 Mo' Wax released one of electronic music's most celebrated albums, DJ Shadow's seminal Endtroducing...... Soon after this Lavelle started work on an album with DJ Shadow under the name UNKLE. The resulting release Psyence Fiction featured collaborations with Richard Ashcroft, Mike D, Badly Drawn Boy and Thom Yorke. In 2003, he released a follow up to Psyence Fiction, titled Never, Never, Land, though this album saw DJ Shadow replaced by Richard File as the second full time member of UNKLE. It featured collaborations with 3D of Massive Attack and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age among others. James is a long time resident at Fabric in London, mixing the inaugural Fabric Live mix album. He has also mixed two progressive house albums for Global Underground.
Tom Beaufoy and Pat Pardy first combined skills as Evil Nine in 1998 and were quickly recognised as a quality DJ/Producer duo by Adam Freeland who signed them to his label. Their punk rock, DIY attitude, epitomised by their remix of Ils' "Music", stirred up the breaks scene. Their love of innovation and ability to tweak the breaks format, injecting punk, house and their own raw vibe into the mix, is rapidly establishing them as the new golden boys as they forge a fresh path.
Pete & Boggy met on the dancefloor at London nightclub Fabric in 2003 and instantly becoming best friends they soon formed Riotous Rockers – a DJ duo. Gaining a residency at Liars Club in Nottingham, they played an unusual yet danceable mix of Pop, Electro, Disco and Guitar music. Over the last threeyears they have played regularly for Bugged Out!, Wall Of Sound, Razzmatazz, Fabric, and Maunumission alongside guests such as Erol Alkan, 2manyDJs, and Glimmers. Over this time they have continued to play at their home – Liars Club which has since grown into one of the most respected nights in the UK hosting guest bands and Djs often early on in their careers. Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Simian Mobile Disco, Scissor Sisters and MSTRKRFT have all played. In addition to their busy DJ schedule Pete also forms one half of in demand production duo Nightmoves, recently remixing bands including; Klaxons, Freefrom Five & Van She gaining releases on international labels such as Kitsune, Wall Of Sound and Modular.
Support comes from Chibuku legend Luke Carr.

FRI JAN 19 2007
CHIBUKU FEB 3RD AT THE MASQUE
After a storming New Year it’s back to business now the January break has helped us recharge our somewhat flat batteries.
Feb 3rd is going to be a bit special with the long awaited Chibuku debut of Simian Mobile Disco.

More widely known for the Justice Vs. Simian award winning single "We are your friends", Simian are fast becoming the biggest producers in the business. James Ford has just produced the forthcoming new Artic Monkeys album as well as Test Icicles (who we think are gash incidentally but we will let him off on this occasion) but more importantly the Mystery Jets and the Klaxons so he knows his stuff.
J
ustin Robertson hasn't played Chibuku in nearly a year. Consistently one of the best house and techno DJs on the scene, his theatre sets are the definition of dance floor quality.

There’s another debut upstairs for Adam F. Plastic Scouser and drum and bass scene overlord, his Breakbeat Kaos imprint is pretty much the biggest in the business.

On warm up duty is none other than DJ Food. His 3rd ever Chibuku appearance will bounce between classic Ninja Tune down tempo hip hop beats right through to straight up rolling drum and bass – a beast.

Feb 3rd is destined to be classic as we open our account fully for 2007, and you can see below the outrageous Feb 17th party that follows.

And let’s not forget March is birthday time too…

*** CHIBUKU VS CIRCUS RESIDENTS PARTY - SAY JAN 27TH ***
The annual and much loved ding dong between two of the UK’s best loved takes places, and much like the striking of that bell on the New York Stock Exchange or the first blast of a shotgun in the hunting season, it signals the start of the new clubbing year, a date as keenly sought as J K Rowling announcing the publication of her final tome.

Uniting some of the best residents the clubs have to offer, it’s the best excuse really for some delicious deck devilry spanning and all manner of genres, from blistering acid-house and jackin’ workouts outs, through to punchy drum and bass, party breaks and a smattering of 4-deck madness thrown in for more than good measure.

Headlined by Circus ringmaster Yousef, the local lad is supported by a brace of talent just itching to get back behind the decks after the January hiatus, the cobwebs having been brushed away, etc, now that Boxing Day and NYE have been laid to rest.

This is going to be an absolute corker so – you know where to be at the end of the month.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Chibuku!

TUE NOV 14 2006
CHIBUKU THIS SATURDAY WITH GREEN VELVET!
We like nothing more at Chibuku HQ than warming your cockles and this little gem of a chilly mid-November will be the perfect tonic as race toward the festive frolics just around the corner. Bringing things back around on a techno tip, we thought it was about time the Theatre got a good seeing to by one of the scene’s more eccentric, electric and eclectic players. It’s taken a while for him to grace Liverpool for Chibuku, but finally we welcome Green Velvet.

Green Velvet, initially created by house don Cajmere (aka Curtis Jones) as an outlet for his non-vocal productions and frequent DJing gigs, grew to become even more popular than the man himself, thanks to club singles like "Preacher Man," "Answering Machine" and "The Stalker." He followed up the debut release with "Flash" and "The Stalker", both of which brought about unexpected praise and worldwide recognition. There followed the seminal tracks “Answering Machine” and “La La Land” and countless remixes. Along with his live and pure DJing sets at many of the world’s best techno clubs and despite massive popularity has always retained an element of mystery and it’s not been easy securing his services which is why we’re so happy to say Green Velvet is finally in the building.

And always welcome at Chibuku are The Scratch Perverts. They are generally acknowledged as some of the finest and most influential turntablists ever and have contributed countless techniques and pioneered radical innovations in developing the skills and possibilities that can be achieved on a turntable. As a team, they have won two consecutive World DMC Team titles; Prime Cuts also won two consecutive World ITF titles, and Plus One won the World DMC Champion and World Vestax Champion titles. Having become so dominant, they have now retired indefinitely from competition. The Scratch Perverts are also notable within the field of turntablism for their adoption of the drum and bass music of their native UK, which now features heavily in their DJ sets. They have torn it shreds every time they have played for us and we know this is going to be no different – if anything, even better.

We’re also pleased to give TC his debut. TC, (real name is Tom Casswell), is a Drum and Bass producer and DJ from Bristol. He left school and started making music inspired by the sounds of the Bristol scene and the music and atmosphere of St. Paul's, the area of Bristol where he grew up. This will be a great start for Tom!

And as a special old skool treat we have Altern8. Today, Altern 8 are still dominating clubbing’s Old Skool revival - highlights from this year alone include the Glade Festival (England), Sonar Sound Music Festival (Tokyo) Lov:e (Brazil), Club Tropicana (Tenerife), Acid3 (Switzerland) and Time Tunnel (Finland), as well as numerous British club appearances. Altern 8 have played in Liverpool on a few occasions (Aintree Racecourse in 1991, where their set was recorded and later used on their No 6 chart track E-Vapor-8, and more recently at Hazydayz 1st Birthday, 2005) and both are thrilled to be playing there again. “Liverpool has always been a great place to play”, says Mark Archer (MrNex). “The city is steeped in musical tradition and the crowds are brilliant. I recently went to Chibuku at The Barfly to see one of my heroes, Derrick May. I thought then that I would love to play at the venue, which was great and the crowd were really receptive to different styles of music.”

Support comes from the No Fakin’ DJs, Leo Belchetz and Dom Chung.

MON OCT 2 2006
CHIBUKU IS THIS SATURDAY 7TH OCTOBER...
Chibuku begins a meaty month of mayhem in Liverpool with two huge gigs in the space of one week!

Andy Cato

Keeping matters old school we welcome Chibuku legend and arguably the tallest man in dance music back to the city – Andy Cato of Groove Armada returns to bowl us over with his new and much inspired Pack Up and Dance package. Who can forget the January 2003 set Andy played in The Theatre, one of the best of all time, a simple you-had-to-be-there affair? The big man is going to nail is again for us in October as he takes house back to its roots.

And joining his is Chicago beast DJ Sneak! Another firm Liverpool legend and one of the all time greats, encompassing everything from sleazy jackin’ beats to deep acid bouncy house, Sneak remains one of the scene’s finest purveyors, innovator of the disco filtered house sound that inspired Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx and many more and has remixed artists as diverse as Everything But The Girl, The Avalanches and Backstreet Boys.

Dexter

And speaking of The Avalanches – and Chibuku favourites – the diminutive DJ Dexter returns and you might be mistaken for seeing double as he brings his brother with him for this one! We all know just how good Dexter is and Kuya isn’t too bad either becoming state, country and world finalist in both ITF and DMC competitions, massive testament to not only his experience and ability to hold it down but his untouchable skills on the decks. From remixing tracks with Christine Anu, to producing darkly tinged Hip Hop in all its guises, Kuya has played with, battled and creates unmistakable and forward thinking music.

TUE JUL 18 2006
THEO PARRISH, CASH MONEY AND FREQ NASTY THIS SAT AT CHIBUKU!
We are incredibly excited and proud to announce this very special summer session at Chibuku… and welcome Theo Parrish to Liverpool for one of his genre spanning sets encompassing a combination of rough, dirty soul techno and lo-fi house as well as traditional disco and house music.

Theo Parrish was born in Washington D.C. in 1972 and raised in Chicago, IL where his passion for music developed. Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Nina Simone, George Gershwin, Bob Marley, as well as his uncle, jazz musician Dexter Sims, all had strong influences on Theo's early musical life. Chicago's radio influences and dance artists such as Ron Hardy, Larry Heard, Lil Louis, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Gene Hunt, Mike Dunn, Frankie Knuckles, Walter Get Down Brown and Andre Hatchett, helped to spawn Mr. Parrish's early career. He began spinning and producing tracks in 1986, at the age of thirteen.

Theo Parrish

After graduating from the Academy for the Arts, he received a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute where his interest in music was taken to a new level through his study of sculpture. In 1994, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from KCAI with a concentration in Sound Sculpture, a form of orchestration using live instruments, looped recordings, the human voice, and numerous other sound generation devices. While in Kansas City, Theo continued to impact and be impacted by dance music, helping to bring a dormant underground music scene to life. With a style similar to Moodyman’s take on Detroit tech-house as a melange of distorted disco-funk and boogie, Theo remains one of the most sought after DJs of his time as his tastes and musical direction has developed and flourished, making him one of the scene’s best loved and respected DJs. He continues to release genre defining music and play at the world’s best clubs – he is one of the true musical legends and rarity to see in Liverpool.

Theo is joined by deck wizard Ca$h Money for some more classic hip-hop turntabalism and the breakbeat extraordinaire Freq Nasty, along with the ever talented Johnny 1 Move, Scott McGill (Nocturne/Tfunkshun) and the Nofakin’ DJs.

Touché is London-based DJ/producer Theo Keating. Currently resident at Brighton's long-running Boutique night, and at The Culture Club in Ghent, Belgium, Theo's DJ-ing takes him around the world. He also records for the Southern Fried label, and runs his own label, Body Clap.

But it all started with The Wiseguys. Formed in 1994 by Touché and Regal, and signed to Wall Of Sound, The Wiseguys released their debut LP ‘Executive Suite’ in 1996. It received critical acclaim, and is now accepted as a cult classic. However, Regal soon departed, and Touché went on to record the follow-up album ‘The Antidote’ solo. It was this album that gave rise to the hit singles ‘Ooh La La’ (#2 in the UK Top 40) and ‘Start The Commotion’ (Billboard Top 10 in the US), and led to Touché remixing artists such as Beck, The Offspring and Gorillaz. But wanting to leave The Wiseguys on a high, Theo decided to finish with the project in 2000, and concentrate on his work as Touché...

A long stint DJ-ing at Fabric followed, and a mix album for the renowned Journeys By DJ series, as well as his own radio shows: on Atlantic 252, and as co-host on XfM's All-City Show. It was during this period that Touché fit in releases for respected labels Subliminal, Heat, and Junior. However, it was Fatboy Slim's Southern Fried Records where Theo finally found a home.

So far Touché has released two singles for the label: ‘The Paddle / The Girls' A Freak’ and ‘She's At The Club / The Body Clap’, both to a great reception, and is currently working on a follow-up single and album. As Touché he has remixed for labels such as Fine Records, Distinctive, C2 and Open, and has just started his own label, Body Clap which is already creating a stir.

Chapter 2 is just beginning…

AND THE PRESS SAYS:

WED JUN 7 2006
* CHIBUKU'S LINEUP AT CREAMFIELDS 2006! *
Feast your eyes on this guys..

Chibuku has had another blistering year with sell out shows at from Nation to Fabric, from being rated amongst the top 50 clubs on the planet by DJ Mag to nurturing the Beatdown brand in the north, the best party in the land just keeps getting better. It’s our 3rd year working with Creamfields and you can see how far we have evolved. A new site for the festival heralds a new era and will go a long way to creating the right vibe for time to come.
2manydjs headline our tent and we simply can’t get enough of the Dewaele brothers and their ridiculously good tune choice and incredible skills behind the decks. We’ve also got another Chibuku favourite, the always smiling electro rocker chief that is Felix da Housecatt, renown for his relentless sets of pure electric filth – not to be missed.
Answer machine specialist Green Velvet is making a long awaited return to Creamfields. His super twisted techno and house needs no introduction. Mylo also comes in for us as well. He has had arguably the craziest two years in music and continues to wow the crowds where ever he plays. A massive coup for us we think to have him onboard.
Making his Chibuku debut comes Tiga, basking in the glory of the success of the string of singles from his new album. Dance floor friendly party electro and heavy bass lines are his signature sounds and if his recent show at The End is anything to go by we are in for a treat. The Plumps also rock up for another of their blistering breakbeat sessions which we can’t wait for.
The guys are joined by Annie Mac, whose star is firmly in the ascendant with her eclectic radio show proving to be amongst the most popular on Radio 1. Her appearances at the Liverpool club are fast making her a headliner in her own right. And Touche finishes our tent off, again another supremely good and inventive DJ, with this guy around you don’t know what to expect – except a rocking party!

“Chibuku are pleased to announce our third year with Creamfields with another tent busting roster! Bringing together all the names which have been smashing the club all year, we can’t for this new era for Creamfields and its new site in Daresbury. We are also pleased to be a centre part of a fresh and exciting overall lineup which is the most eclectic and explosive to date.”
Richard McGinnis (Chibuku Promoter)

CHIBUKU AT BEACHBOMBING, 8TH - 11TH JUNE
SBH Events Presents BEACHBOMBING UK
8th – 11th June 2006
Newquay, Cornwall
www.beachbombing.com

THE EVENT
Beachbombing, the sister summer event of the renowned Snowbombing, returns after a two year siesta, this time to the sunny seaside resort of Newquay. We’re embracing a very British holidaying tradition and taking to a caravan park for the weekend… settling in, kicking back, surfing, bbq-ing and partying.

Beach parties, Poolside Sundown Sessions, fun and games and late night club action is the order of the day, then it’s all back to those vans to raise some roofs and see the sun come up.

Beachbombing UK is the ultimate in affordable, hassle free kick backs. It’s your mates, it’s the beach, it’s ace tunes and it’s getting away from the humdrum for a blast of sun and some good clean fun.

We’re focusing not so much on the music but on putting together a great weekend away, with activities based on the beach as well as on the caravan park. We’ll be mixing up some great music with more fun stuff like beach bingo, trailer park treasure hunt, sand castle competitions and much more. Its all about having a laugh!

THE BEACH
During the day, it’s all about the beach – with mates, music and lazing in the sun. It’s a time for getting out the frisbees and the windbreakers and taking to the sand for some fun. But if that all sounds a bit too tame, Beachbombing UK are providing the opportunity to hit the waves, give surfing a go and live out all those point Break Point fantasies (at least for the lady spectators…).

THE POOLSIDE SUNDOWN SESSIONS
In the evening as the sun goes down it’s back to the Beachbombing private pool for a wind down and a warm up to the night time action in the clubs. The Beachbombing Poolside Sessions will reflect the ethos of the whole event –great tunes, top people and a relaxed vibe. Who needs Café Del Mar…?

THE GAMES
Beachbombing won't be taking itself too seriously in 2006, with lots of larks and games being arranged for your pleasure. We've been racking our own brains and pestering other to come up the best ways for grown ups to have fun in the sun! Keeping it clean of course…

There's the Grand Beachbombing Treasure Hunt and the Once, Twice, Ney Thrice! Daily Caravan Number Raffle - prizes include drinks, booze, liquor, the sauce and lots of delicious alcohol.

Blowback magazine will be joining us on the shore for a sand castle building competition and Beach Bingo with Deano Ferrino helping run the show.

After the unforgettable Bottle Rocket night at Snowbombing 2006 the Squeaky Hill will be taking their action poolside for the Boat Bottle Pirate Party Special. Get your eye patch on and join the fun!

There's not much fancy about it, we just want it to be a right good laugh!

THE CARAVANS
The caravans are like miniature homes away from home, with separate bedrooms and living areas as well as a private bathroom and cooking facilities. They come with the added bonuses of being totally waterproof and fully erected, ready for habitation on arrival!

They’re all set in lovely green surrounds (think American suburbia style groomed lawns) and there’s plenty of room for barbeques, sunbathing, getting to know your neighbours and gadding about on the grass.

PACKAGES
A Beachbombing package including 3 nights accommodation and all entertainment and parties costs a mere £69. Surfing lessons cost £15.

THE MUSIC
The Beachbombing UK Club is right on site and just a stagger away from your static portable home. We’ve enlisted a load of our favourite DJs to come along and rock Newquay like nobody has before.

The Beachbombing line up will be revealing itself over the next week or two, but we’ve already roped in a few ‘bombing favourites –

DJ SHADOW AT CHIBUKU!
We are incredibly proud on this one...

DJ Shadow brings the incredible Hyphy Movement to Liverpool for one of the gigs of the year in Liverpool, the North West and dare we say for the UK too…
It’s already been a crazy first third of the year for Chibuku with the 6th birthday in March followed by Ian Brown in April but this jaw dropper is the best and most inspired yet.
The Hyphy Movement is a collaborative movement between hiphop artists including The Team, Mistah FAB, Keak Da Sneak, Frontline, E-A-Ski, Hood Starz, San Quinn, Ya Boy, Messy Marv, Turf Talk, Jacka, Mob Figaz and Killa Squad drawn from America’s west coast, specifically the Bay Area of San Francisco, fusing together sounds grown out of a resentment for commercial hiphop music refusing to acknowledge the area for its contributions to the genre.
The Hyphy sound is distinguished by gritty, pounding and infectious rhythms and the name was first coined by Keak Da Sneak based heavily around “partying and having as good a time as possible” which is what is happening at Chibuku on Saturday June 10th.
DJ Shadow hosts this special night with Keak Da Sneak, Turf Talk and Nump along with Tony Vegas from the Scratch Perverts and more TBC.

Hyphy is a full-blown, self-proclaimed movement that’s equally characterized by frenetic dancing (known as “go dumb get stupid” dancing) completely void of inhibition or self-control – and we’re pleased to announce that some Hyphy dancers will be at this gig to blow your senses.

Each have invited guest and resident DJ's for some tussling behind the decks, expect a whole host of music styles dropped into the mix and a bloody good party….

Jumpstart celebrates its 4th birthday over this weekend and have invited Colin Peters as their special guest. Colin Peters arrived in Ibiza seven years ago with a box of records and a pile of tapes, first to take note was Mike Manumission who immediately offered him a residency in the Coco Loco bar at his world famous night in Privilege, only the largest club in the world. Catch Colin bringing that bit of Ibiza magic to Sosho this bank holiday Sunday. Jumpstart residents Scott Martin and Neil Chapman are Jumpstart resident DJ's for the night.

House Trained have emerged over the past year as one of the truly exciting new nights in London. Booking guests such as Mylo, Bill Brewster, Hot Chip and acid house stalwart Steve Proctor may have helped their cause somewhat, but equally it is down to the energy and enthusiasm put in to the nights by promoters and residents Ben & Neil Terry.

THE RESIDENTS PRESENT...
Another new innovation coming from Chibuku this year is giving the residents a chance to showcase people they themselves would like to play with.

For every bar gig in the coming months selected residents have been asked to recruit people they know of and respect – and who also rock it – meaning a chance to host the esteemed bar for the entire night. Many cracking choices have already been made and the first few bar gigs have been sorted.

Leo gets first go, bringing up eclectic house rockers Big Hair – mullets aside, these boys are prolific producers and are very much looking forwards to playing Chibuku. Next up Phil Charnock presents Birmingham’s Jigsaw DJs. Fine exponents of deep jazzy grooves, soul and beats, they will be the perfect company for our own Phil in the bar. And in March comes Sonny Wharton. A man who’s seen quite a bit of the world and rocked most of it, he’s become a fave and a bit of a regular at Chibuku, including NYE’s 8 deck and 4 mixer extravaganza with Chris and Matt – AKA The Beat Monkeys. Expect everything from house, drum and bass, funk, techno, an orchestra. If we can fit all those decks in the bar we will…!

Chibuku Residents present...In The Bar:

Saturday 5th February
Leo Belchetz presents:
Big Hair in The Bar

Saturday 19th February
Phil Charnock presents:

Saturday March 5th March

Saturday March 19th is the 5th birthday!!!

This of course along with the likes of 2ManyDJs, Felix da Housecatt, Andy C, Jon Carter, Justin Robertson, Killa Kella and many more…

Infusion – Australian progressive sounds

Infusion; Jamie Stevens, Manuel Sharrad and Frank Xavier have emerged as a world-class electronic act. The Australian outfit are currently finishing their second album, following up their debut album “Phrases & Numbers” from 2000. They have released numerous tracks and have remixed the likes of Bjørk, Kate Bush, Main Element and Buds Not Bombs. Their style is progressive house music and in the beginning of 2004 they did the Essential mix on BBC Radio 1 featuring a brilliant 2 hours set. On the 26th and 27th of March they will be in Denmark for the Heineken Green Room Sessions and they will return in July for the Roskilde Festival 2004. I got hold of Jamie Stevens to get the latest.

The first album “Phrases and Numbers” is very hard to find – is it out of print? If so - will it be re-released?
- We're not really sure - sometimes people can find it, sometimes not, we don't have a great deal of contact with the label anymore. We are working on the problem, though - hopefully it might be more readily available later in the year.

I've never been able to pinpoint an "Infusion sound"
Your sound is very tough, but still melodic and for me already very recognisable – can you explain this sound and where the inspiration comes from?
- I've never been able to pinpoint an "Infusion sound". I've always thought our sound is quite all over the place but I do think we do have a tough edge and that's pretty important to us in the club tracks that we do. We just find that the toughness is exciting. We like to make exciting records that have interesting layers to them and that probably comes from a combination of my love of soundtracks and Jean-Michel Jarre and Frank's old love of East Coast rap and Manuel's obsession with the Beach Boys and The Beatles. We like to make music that has a certain sinister edge to it; even our "lighter" tracks are offset with a hint of bleakness! Films, poetry, books and painting are just more interesting to us when they explore a darker side of creativity.

Do you always agree when you are working in the studio?
- Of course not! It comes from all of us having very firm views. The pushing and pulling of ideas and the arguments over what we produce creates the tension and difference that I think people can pick up on. We want to make sure that all three of us are happy with the result at the end of the day, but exactly how we get to that point can be a little rough sometimes.

It maybe meant a lot more to other people
Being on a Paul Oakenfold’s “Great Wall” compilation with two tracks; Bjork – Pagen Poetry and the Legacy (Junkie XL Mix) track – what has this meant for you? Has your popularity gone up, are you offered more remixes and gigs than before?
- I think it maybe meant a lot more to other people than it did to us! I mean, it's great that it happened but I don't think we've really felt a big impact that can be specifically traced to that compilation. Besides which, the Bjork remix isn't even credited as ours and the track that is ours is remixed by Junkie XL, anyway. Don't get me wrong, things have been building really well for us which is fantastic and of course we are very grateful for it happening but I don’t think it could be said that the Oakenfold compilation meant more than the Global Underground compilations or playing at Creamfields or Pete Tong playing our tracks on his show. It's been a great combination of everything, I think.

You have done two of my favourite remixes of 2003; Bjork – Pagen Poetry (released on RR1000) and the “bootleg” remix of Kate Bush’s “Running up that hill” – can you tell me a little about the background for doing these amazing tracks.
- They were actually done as just fun, quick ideas. The Bjork one came to me on the tram here in Melbourne when I was listening to her "Vespertine" album on my headphones and I just started hearing these beats over the top and thought it would be fun to play around with. I got home, chopped up the track, made up some beats, processed a few sounds from the original tracks and put it together over a couple of nights. I like the way it turned out but had no idea it was going to heard by so many people. Just like the Kate Bush track. That idea had been sitting in my computer for about 5 years as just loops, a couple of basslines and a few odd sounds and I played the idea to Cass when he came to Australia and we were doing some work together. He said we needed to finish that right there and then. It was finished in about 4 hours! It was great fun and we were jumping around the studio thinking "this has so much energy!" But again, I wasn't even thinking about it being released or heard by too many other people!

- I really don't necessarily think that it's stronger in Australia than anywhere else - I think perhaps it has developed that reputation internationally because it's such a nice place for DJs to tour, especially in our summer! Like anywhere else, clubs shut down, events have bad turnouts - there are a strong collective of talented producers here but really only a handful of labels.

Infusion live – what can we expect?
- Two hours of live, unrehearsed house music! We never know what we're going to play on the night, so we'll take it as the night comes.

And finally how did you all hock up? And where does the name "Infusion" come from?
- Myself and Manuel met very early on in high school - he sat down next to me in a class and by the end of the week we were writing music together and have been ever since. I later met Frank when he was working in a music store. It took him quite a while to be convinced to join Infusion. We all grew up in a very small town where the main industry is coal mining, but we probably didn't really 100% concentrate on Infusion until we moved to Sydney, and then later to Melbourne. I can't really remember anymore, it was decided on many years ago! I think maybe a friend of ours suggested it.
