THePETEBOX is a multivocalist beatbox artist from the city of Nottingham. Specialising in drum and bass and hip hop styles, he has for the past year been showcasing his skills and earning the respect of audiences across the UK, after being crowned Radio 1 beatbox champion in Nov 2004. Having featured in line-ups alongside the likes of legendary Grandmaster Flash, Scratch Perverts, Killa Kela, Fingathing and even The Human League, THePETEBOX is building momentum in a fast growing movement in contemporary music, leaving in his wake bruised P.A's, worn out mics, and crowds awed and breathless. "A live electronica dance band who are loved by those who know and are about to be adored by those who don't"
- BBC Online
"Easily one of the brightest and dirtiest dance collectives this year"
- Spitz Live Records
"You'd have to be musically backwards not to get this!" (5/5 stars)
- Spill Magazine
This is a band like no other you have ever encountered. Go to a Subsource performance and you will be greeted by four nutcases laying down the most insane concoction of electro and breakbeat with frenetic punk rock energy. The sound of Subsource inspires comparison to The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx and Reprazent - and their stage shows have to be seen to be believed.
Subsource are fronted by brooding double bass player and vocalist Stuart Henshall who can be found centre stage playing a supercharged electric double bass whilst his vocals swoon over the heavy breaks. On synths, glitches and electronic percussion is technical wizard and classically trained pianist Dennis Ng aka ‘Borg’ whose onstage antics can turn the most lacklustre crowd into an electro freak-out. Stage right is a blur of movement as mohican-wielding multi instrumentalist Paul Frazer flits between guitar, synths and percussion in a frenzy of activity alongside Neil Shervell’s fearsome machine gun drumming. His storm of fat breakbeats help create an overall sound that can only be described as unique.
At most shows, you will also catch an extra special international guest: Kimba, who acts as MC, compere and vibes man – the finest MC talent from the Southern Hemisphere, hailing from Malawi in the heart of Africa bringing soul and his monstrous raps to this huge oufit.
