Saintpeter, did you host the last one? Good work.

Another one will be cool. If only to give me a kick up the arse and attempt a decent mix.

If you don’t mind sorting out the hosting again then that’s great. I’m clueless when it comes to such things.

Mods could maybe do a sticky, and make it official???

I will be more than happy to host mixes, can we have an official "YO" for everyone who wants to submit a mix?

Last time round mixes were sent annonymously on cd, but i think as more or less everyone has broadband now theres no reason why they cant be anonymously uploaded,

any one else before we get cracking?

To anyone who has no idea what is going on, we run a mix off competition for chinuku board members, budding dj's have to submit a 45 minute mix, the board members then vote on their favourite in the distant hope that rich might just give the winner a set, unfortunately last time it remained just a distant hope but was mega fun for all involved and we had some truly great entries.

If anyone else would like a crack at this please say so asap.

Ive pm'd ftp login details to you all, any problems or if anyone has not recieved my pm then please let me know,

remember your mixes need to be encoded in 128k .mp3

once everyone has uploaded their set ill move them all to one folder and put the links on here in a new thread with info on how to vote etc....

saintpeter
17-03-2007, 02:38 PM
only 4 mixes uploaded so far so I dont see an extension as being a huge issue, if we say the absolute final deadline to have your mix uploaded is sat 24th, if anyone hasnt uploaded by then we go with what we have.......

quite looking forward to hearing them myself.....

how would i go about encoding my mix in 128k?

Pete1
18-03-2007, 01:04 PM
If you recorded it in soundforge then you can select to save it as a whole array of formats.

I usually record the master as a wav, then save as and select mp3 and can select the compression amount.... ie 128k,192k, 256k, 320k etc...

saintpeter
18-03-2007, 08:34 PM
how would i go about encoding my mix in 128k?

if you are havin trouble getting software you could upload your mix in whatever format you have it in (wav etc) and i will encode for you,

let us know if you require any more help...

What happens now???

saintpeter
04-04-2007, 01:03 PM
Right, ther is just one more guy about to upload his set, once done i will post a new thread with all the mixes in,

we need to sort out a voting system, last time each user voted by sending a pm to a previously agreed account, this is a little crud tho as the max pm limit is now 50, so voting i think should be in its own thread where each chibuku board member places their vote and nothing else (unless any budding web designer wants to create a flash/java voting page for us with an ip block so only 1 vote per ip is applied)

what do we think on timescales?

if the mixes are all online by tonight, (unsure on the final number but at least 6) that is 6 x 45 minutes of listening,

do we need to give everyone 2 weeks to get their vote in? or more?

Pete1
04-04-2007, 02:02 PM
I don't think there is any rush to crown me champion. Heh Heh... So why not just see who has the most votes one month from now and declare them the winner.

Cheers Saintpeter, you are doing a swell job.

saintpeter
04-04-2007, 02:49 PM
on the anonymity side, ive noticed that 2 of the mixes have the dj's name in the id3 tag, im unsure if I can edit id3 tags or not when the file is stored on a server - if i can i will but it looks like we will need them re-uploading,

they are: scott lewis and tommy tea....

sounds good to me - i will post the voting thread when the mixes are ready

outlar

start a new thread with the mixes in the first post, along with instructions to leave a vote on the first line of a reply (and any extra comments below.) one vote per board member is the most fair option.

I may sound really thick, but what is an id3 tag? Do you wnat me to re upload it having removed it. If so, how do i remove it? Thanks.

an ID3 tag is a bit of extra information inserted into an MP3 file containing info like artist, track number, genre, album name, contact address etc. Newer versions of ID3 supports chapters and pictures which are starting to be used in Podcasts.

The mp3 encoder you use to encode your mix may be inserting your name by default. Have a check through any settings/preferences, particularly for a TAGs section where all the ID3 details can be edited.

Alternatively, windows can edit/remove tags. Right click on an mp3 and select Properties. then go into the Summary tab where you should find an 'Advanced' button. You can edit all the ID3 bits from there.

saintpeter
04-04-2007, 10:13 PM
scott, dont worry bout removing your old set, just re-upload once the id3 tag has been edited, thanks

sorry, excuse me for being an idiot...but where do we vote? i was assuming it was in the other thead where all the mixes are listed, i was going to vote in there but as no one has i wasnt sure if were werent ment to or if the posts were somehow magically hidden.

all the mixes are top, i'd never really chose to listen to the minimal or housey stuff but its all pretty good.

Pete1
12-04-2007, 07:42 PM
We vote in the other thread, on the first line of your reply.

Do participants vote? Obviously not for themselves like, cos they would just cancel each other out. Participants choose the best of their competitors kind of thing....

outlar
12-04-2007, 11:00 PM
I've only had a chance to listen to a few of them so far but should be able to pick and vote for one after the weekend. I guess the Easter Holiday weekend was also a bad time to present the mixes; I presume a lot of people missed it!

saintpeter
12-04-2007, 11:33 PM
yea, participants should vote, just not for your own set.......
