Baobinga & I.D. present Big Monster

Baobinga & I.D. need no introduction to anyone interested in the harder side of breaks - tunes such as 'The Feeling' and 'Buss Diss' (Hardcore Beats) and 'Stompin' (Vertical Sound) have rocked crowds at the hands of all DJs from The Freestylers to the Plump DJs, as well as attracting licenses from Electronic Arts computer games (FIFA Street 06 vibrates to 'The Feeling'), The Breakfastaz, who licensed Buss Diss to their debut Breakspoll compilation and Resist - Stompin' is a stand-out cut on the recent 'Max Power - Booty Bass'.
Now, with their new Big Monster project, these two Manchester-based beat scientists are working to create a new sound in the breaks scene. Long known for their love of loopy, melodic techno, the Big Monster sound is developing into an amalgamation of tough breakbeats, hypnotic techno percussion and heavy basslines that propel the track forward, either through sheer electro-brutalism or by creating an emotive quality not often found in breaks.
The first results of this new direction were eagerly picked up by the legendary Fat! records, who released the first Big Monster single at the start of 2006. 'Rite Of Passage / Get Retro' sold out soon after release and attracted big support from Atomic Hooligan, The Plump DJs, Tayo and Evil 9. The secong single ('The Machine', also on Fat!) became such an anthem for the Stanton Warriors that they had no choice but to license it for their recent Fabric Live compilation, where it sits proudly amongst such company as Claude Von Stroke, Booka Shade and Freeform Five. The legendary Functional Breaks label was also treated to a slice of Big Monster magic - the Baobinga & I.D. remix of 'Soundgal' by Ben & Lex was one of the biggest tunes of the year, attracting major support from The Rogue Element, General Midi, Slyde, Rennie Pilgrem, to name but a few.
2006 saw Baobinga & I.D. take their unique style of DJing across the globe, from The End in London to Babyface in China. Mixing breaks, house, techno and garage on three decks, their fresh approach to crowd-rocking has seen their stock rise rapidly. With more releases and even bigger gigs (including New Years Eve at Chew The Fat! London) coming up, things are indeed looking bright for the Big Monster sound.
