I know it's hardly original with a post about this - but I forsee pretty much a decent post a day - in theory - relating to all this grim reading if a quick scan of the internet is engaged...

News stories like this seem to crop up more and more often, I think people are slowly waking up. I wish everyone would take heed instead of just reading these things and then discarding them. Mind you, I guess its difficult when we're constantly being fed predictions of doom and disaster.

Cheerful post there Damo. Happy new year to you too la.

To be honest as someone who is unlikely to live past 2050 and even more unlikely to have offspring I couldnt really pretend that I'm arsed about climate change. Actually at this moment in time I'm all for anything that will warm up the depressing UK winter

People need to wake up, weve known this for a long time now & it seems people are only just realising now that they can see a difference themselves ie the strange weather patterns that we have been getting, these patterns have been prominent in the 3rd world for for years & its a chronic situation. There needs to be a complete social change in the way we, particularly the western world lead our lives, everything we do needs to be geared towards saving energy & fuel, it really pisses me off to see people driving round in huge cars that run on 10miles to the gallon like its some kind of status symbol, turning lights/equipment off when they arent needed (god i sound like my dad now) etc
Anyhow thats enough of a rant from me, im sure you all know this anyway!

Meade at some point your future wife/lady friend etc is going to give birth to your offspring and you will be blessed with new life and a part of you in the writhing, pink and screaming mass cradled in your arms... said mass which will inherit some kind of parched, seriously over populated and distinctly uncertain future.

i know what you mean. it seems so far away. but - have you ever experience such a mild winter like this?! it could be just an anomoly but with all the other reportage you have to wonder how far away we are from it, and judging by the flies i have seen buzzing around in jan something is wrong somewhere

There's always been global climate change.

Relax.

True - climate change has always been around but not at the rate at which we are currently experiencing.

The planet will survive and will go on regardless, we might not be so lucky.:(

we are totally finished, no matter how much recycling we do etc. country's like china, india and the united states of shut the hell up, will continue in there ways not giving a toss. i'm sure i read somewhere, that even if all the governments around the world manage to cut the levels of carbon emissions(sp) to the recomended levels it will only slow down the process of global warming by 6 years, so we are fucked.

America is the biggest culprit and it's an absolute travesty that they will not sign up to any kind of agreement to tackle this situation, i know hate is a strong word but i have grown to hate america, the government, the people, their culture, just everything about the place makes me sick and angry. i've also noticed over the last few years how a lot of things in the UK have become "americanised", down to the very small things like the journo's in our national press calling football "soccer". anyways rant over. lol.

ps - i don't drive/own a car, i recycle as best i can and i make sure i turn all things that use power off in my flat when not using them, but i get the feeling it's all in vain really no matter what i do.

2012 or bust???

funk_engineer
11-01-2007, 12:54 PM
not 2012 don't worry lad, i'm talking in terms of future generations instead of say the shit hitting the fan in 100 years time then the shit would hit the fan in 106 years time, the qouta's (sp) for what the governments are currently doing now is not gonna stop it just slow it down and give us 6 extra years before it's too late to go back. it's not nearly enough really, if that makes sense.

I'd say were done for. Just seems like the wheels are turning towards the end. War, disease, extreme weather change. these things have always been around, but its speeding up just like life is in general technology etc..
Av been watching planet earth loads lately, its repeating on uk documentry or something?
Makes you appreciate the earth 'n' stuff you know.

But not all bad were still here and ya just gotta make the most of your time, although easier said than done.

Has anyone seen that Al Gore documentry film about climate change? Haven't myself anygood?

lighten up!, we all sit here thinking about these things and then go get in a taxi/drive down the road/put a plastic bottle in the bin. human nature, and the earth has always gones through major changes like this, hence ice ages

i think we need to punch some more holes in the ozone layer to let some of this heat out

bloody ozone

anyone else wonder what the antarctic looks like with no ice? the whole world as ive read was in a tropical climate till the ice age or an asteroid hit

as for al gore, i had a bulletin sent me via myspack once that had that video at the start then loads of ones about things that ran on water with the only emission being water vapour, most of these ideas had been bought up by oil giants and were never heard of again!

I'm not saying this is a load of old trout because I do believe that weas a race are changing things on a more quicker intense way than we should but... 30 years ago the media was propagating facts such as " this is the coldest since ever" and "we're heading for another ice age" " every one will die from frost" (obviously I'm a little drunk and can't remember the exact the words... Point being that 30 years ago we were experiencing temperatures that pointed to an ice age - now we're suffering temperatures pointing to global warming. If you've read 'A Brief History Of Everything' then you'd understand that we're due a global change be it warmer or colder - we've had it good for a few thousand years. All the media histeria just causes.. well... histeria... What ever happened to Bird Flu? Has that been cured now?

quite true, im not now just going to lie back an say its all just overblown media but they can reinforce something with only the tiniest of truths to make it believed strongly by millions!

Yes, this is VERY true. People have got too used to living at the president with cosy, heated houses and mountains of food etc easily available so theyre able to waste stuff without thinking twice. No one is going to like it and less are probably going to do it but we need to be stopped living like greedy westerners at the rest of the worlds expense.

Yeah, I was a little drunk... I'm not saying it's bollocks I'm just saying that the media aren't the most responsible of mentors are they? Although one 'fact' I heard the other day was quite frightening - Even if we stop using everything that harms the planet right now, yesterday even, it will take 36 years or so for the balance to be restored... 36 years... I'm not even that old yet.

no it's not cured, we will find out about it when the birds which migrate from britain for the winter come back for the summer this year, they may migrate to country's that have birds infected with bird flu then come back carrying said bird flu thus infecting the birds which stay here all year round possibly, the danger is if it mutates into the type of flu that can be passed from human to human.:)

i beleive the scientist's that are telling us this is happening the media are not just making this up, the media are full of shit when it comes to iraq, afganistan and the threat of terrorism, i would go as far and say global warming is a bigger threat to us now and in future generations than terrorism.

Seriously, everyone just relax.

It'll all be fine.

Do you worry so much as a hangover from your student days?

Don't worry about things so much, it'll turn out alright.
