NuNorthern Soul at 235Live brings a new generation of soul music into the setting of a casino, a concept that echoes the past while looking towards the future.
Many music lovers associate the word casino not with roulette and blackjack, but with soul. The legacy of Northern Soul and the Wigan Casino still resonates around the UK’s club-scene. Now is the time for a new generation of soul music to be heard in the setting of a casino.
Manchester235 is a refreshingly modern and inviting casino that offers a complete entertainment experience. As part of this fresh outlook there is an intimate music and performance venue within the city-centre casino – 235Live.
Every Friday night in 235Live is NuNorthern Soul. Bringing sounds together from across the soul spectrum and presenting them in a welcoming atmosphere is the philosophy behind this weekly soiree.
The eclectic music policy of NuNorthern Soul takes in jazz, hip hop, funk, groove, deep disco, and soul from across the eras. Some of the UK’s finest DJs will be invited to share their favourite records alongside a team of acclaimed residents that includes selectors from quality club nights such as Friends and Family, Common Ground and Chibuku Shake Shake.
NuNorthern Soul will also be inviting acts to perform in the intimate surroundings of 235Live for what should be unforgettable sessions featuring both the new breed of soul stars and some old favourites.
It all begins on Friday November 3rd with resident DJs Kwinzola (No Fakin, Friends and Family) and Ste Hodge (Sick Trumpet) digging deep into their envy-inducing record collections to set the scene for a month of special NuNorthern Soul parties.
Maddslinky (Phuture Lounge) is on the decks in 235Live on November 10th playing the music that inspires his unique productions – from Roy Ayers to Roni Size, James Brown to Jill Scott.
From the future of soul music to a blast from its past on November 17th as Phil Saxe relives his Northern Soul years, including a stint as one of the DJs at Manchester’s truly legendary nightclub, the Twisted Wheel.
NuNorthern Soul on Friday November 24th features the incredible Alice Russell performing live. Quantic’s down-to-earth diva will be joined on stage by TM Juke from the Tru Thoughts label who will be fusing live sounds with DJing for this special show. Also on the decks will be Domu, currently the DJ’s DJ, who will be taking us on a journey through his eclectic and inspiring record collection.
