Simian Mobile Disco Biography...
ABOUT SMD:
James Ford and James 'Jas' Shaw, moonlighting from their production/drum and keyboard duties in Simian, first formed Simian Mobile Disco as a DJ partnership. After playing around Manchester for a while, the two became their own in-house tour DJs, playing underground clubs and after-parties across the world. The DJing led to a series of acclaimed mixtapes and remixes for bands such as Simian's Source labelmates, Air, and eventually Simian Mobile Disco began their own original production work. Soon the Mobile Disco name took on a life of its own. Having DJ'd all over the world including for groups like LCD Sound System, Tiefschwarz and Soulwax, they recently remixed The Kills, Ladytron and The Departure. Now, the boys are hammering away on an LP due for a 2006 release and a very limited mixtape for their fans to consume while they hunker down and wait for the album.
THE TUNES:
James and Jas have numerous releases under their belt. The Justice remix of Simian's Never Be Alone was a huge club hit worldwide. Building from the underground success of this year's electro house wig-outs The Count, The Mighty Atom and recent single Piggy in the Middle, SMD recently released anoth=
er two tracks to the music loving public on V2s Click Click bang imprint. The slap bass grooving Pulse is the retrotronic sound of driving through Miami in a convertible caddy with Giorgio Moroder skinning up in the passenger seat and Holger Czugay in the back.
