View Full Version : The airports crisis

Bit of a kick off with the airports today. I have to go to Manchester airport later to sort out the paperwork to get clearance to go airside, and I can see this throwing a right spanner in the works.
I don't understand how people born and raised in this country can turn against it like these people do. Their forefathers came over here for a better life for their families, and this is how their descendants repay us. It's crazy!

Im down the smoke now, was meant to be goin with a mate to get his new van but weather spoons last night said otherwise. Apparently the roads round heathrow are grid locked. Feel sorry for anyone who is meant to be comin home from their hols today, apparently there is going to be a one hour delay atleast.

That's a pretty big assumption there mate. We don't know anything about the situation yet. I've been listening to this develop on five live all morning and they have not said anything about where the terrorists were from.
I think we underestimate the power that extremist radicals can have over ordinary people, especially if they feel under threat as a race, as many Muslims obviously do with all the shit going on in the Middle East. I'm not saying that's it's right (far from it) but it's not quite as black and white as many would have us believe (i.e The Daily Mail  )

I think this may be a bit of an understatement

It was all over the tv this morning saying they had arrested 18 British born people, so I was just going off that.
Can only go off the breaking news.

i'm a bit sceptical about all of this! support for the campaign on terror is notoriously low, what better time to capture the minds and hearts of the british public by creating this terror alert when everybody is going on their holidays! it remains to be seen if any charges come to these terror suspects they have arrested. the goverment has lied to us before and the majority of the british public believe what they are told by the media which in turn is fed information by the goverment!

I'm totally with you on this one. The whole thing has been hyped up to make our security services look good etc, and judging by the media attention it has worked a treat. We'd be stupid to believe everything we hear and read. I guess there is always going to be a threat to our national security but it is no worse today than it was before all this recent stuff.

probably not like, but anyone down south know if the rail and / or underground network has been affected? if were on critical alert or whatever...heading to london tonight and getting in late so could be doing without disruptions!

Dont be silly. Do you really think they would spend money and resources on a media stunt like this when money is as tight as it is. I dont think so, there is a lot more easier and cheaper ways to catch the attention of the public.

Wasnt even talking about that incident, dont think I have ever passed comment on it. Every life is sacred, but Id rather them make a few mistakes if they avoid major fatalities on the scale of 7/7, 9/11 and potentially this.

yes i do they have already spent billions of tax payers money on a phoney war in iraq telling us a pack of lies about WMD, when in reality they where going into iraq to secure a new base for the americans, as the attack on the world trade centre was an attempt by osama to get the americans out of saudi arabia in which he suceeded, so america has already been defeated by that knobjocky because he got what he wanted. they also need a large presense in the middle east to look after "western interests" ie OIL, iraq is the new vietnam and will probably last for 25 years or more.
yeah the intellegence services are good NOT  since 2000, 1000 people have been arrested as terror suspects and only 154 have been charged thats 1 in 5 they really have their finger on thepulse.

I didn't say this was a media stunt. I'm sure there was some kind of threat or piece of info that made the government act. That goes without saying. I just think that the whole thing has been hyped up by the press to make our security services look good. Lets be fair they need some good PR after that bloke was shot on the tube etc etc. The press just have a habit of making it all a bit "Hollywood".

All easyjet flights were cancelled on our way home from Amsterdam on Thurs except for ours but the flight was "taken over" by some Spanish airline in a rickety old bone shaker of an aeroplane which smelt of wee.
And I got frisked in Schipol.
