.....that I download through Limewire or my mates send me, I always hear tunes and want to know what they are.

Searching on google for tracklisting for some mixes works occasionally, but other times it doesnt. There used to be a telephone number that you could ring with a tune and it would text you back what it was called. dont know if that is still going or whether it would work with "underground" house music.

Is this number (or any similar service) still going, or is there a website that may help me?

When we were at the Big Chill festival over the weekend my mate used the Shazam service to identify some obscure old disco and funk tracks with a fairly high success rate. I think it works using a database of CD based music so if the tracks you're after are only available on vinyl then it won't recognise them. Dial 2580 to use it. Costs 50p for every recognition.

Shazam is wicked especislly if you cant be bothered asking the dj or the dj is too far to reach.

aye Shazam is the bollocks. Doesn't bring up most "underground" dance tunes, but brings up far more than I expected.

Yeah, i did get a virus off it and it wiped everything on my comp. however, it turned out to be my own fault as I had taken off Firewall without putting it back on. If files are corrupt it tells you and it stops downloading it. Since the virus I have gone bacl to it and had no probs since. As long as you keep your firewall on you will be fine.
I have tried using Bear Share and Soul Seek but I always foudn that LImeWire brought up better results, especially for music.

with soulseek, though, you can ban someone midway through them downloading a tune from you and then have a really fun argument
