Whats going on with chibuku these days, i remember hearing tales of metro area, norman jay, jaques lu cont and other such decent interesting djs. I dont know if its just me but it seems like the standard of talent being hired for a good night out in the masque has dropped considerably. Bring back the good old days, maybe its just my taste but summat is up ..or down!!

It's not the line ups that make Chibuku in my opinion. You can see the same DJ's anywhere you want as long as you live somewhere half decent. The difference is Chibuku will get two or three "headliners" on one night! Plus it doesn't matter who you put on - no-one even gets close the atmosphere you get in that place. Nothing that hasn't already been said before though...... Keep up the good work I say!

The venue is amazing, the theatre rocks big time NO DoubT! Maybe im just a moaning moanlisa face. Theo Parrish would be shhweet to see, but why cant you have the best of both worlds.. I could off blinked when a good dj was on i suppose, If Willor anyone part of buku is reading this tell me that the quality hasnt dropped and i will leave it be.

I guess i would love too see Garnier, Parriash, Rolando, Bone, Villalobos or Hawtin on a line up ..please!!!!

But if people are just gona moranically dis me then u might aswell not say anything... im asking a basic question for pete sake.

I would enjoy listening to the Dj'n skills of Chris Lake.

I've got the majority of his own productions, plus the remixes he's done too, and I must say that I would very much like to see him do is ting in the old Theatre like.

Could be on my own on this one though.....

Not having a go Gaz but....

Remember those old Cream posters with the tagline "It's the reason why....(I work all week etc)"???

Well Chibuku (and Circus) should do a flyer with that tagline and a picture of my bank manager snarling at me.
It's absolutely bankrupted me and I love it....so many people I know are in the same boat. They wouldn't pay the ticket if the show wasn't top quality.

The lineups are quality week in week out. On a personal note i've got to see my favourite DJ a good few times now in my own backyard without having to trapse all over the country.

Agree with Emma and Sean. Pick the bones out of....

fair play if thats a bit strong i am sorry but comments like that keep promoters on their toes and are good for the music scene. I am sure everyone has had a time when theyhavent enjoyed the line up but the best nights i have had is when i have just randomly gone not when i have gone to see someone specifically :D

Coakley

Agreed.

Being the aging B-Boy I am i've seen them come and i've seen them go and one things for sure the day Chibuku take things for granted will be the day it's all over for them and the rug will fly from under their feet faster than a rabbit gets f*cked.

I'm sure they know this fine well.

If they keep moving things forward like the attempted Hyphy night (which im my mind was a brave move and would have been exciting to see) and the continued support for up coming acts and eclectic mix of underground music....as they've been doing....they'll continue to be a major cause of concern to mine and my friends overdraft facilities.

As far as i'm concerned (and this will sound propper arse-lick) they are propping up the Hip-Hop scene in Liverpool which has been on it's arse of late....that alone is enough for me to give them props and deserves concrete respect from heads.
At the same time though they are giving people what they want in terms of putting their beloved Erols and co on regularly....AND! exposing people like myself to stuff I wouldn't normally get onto.

I'm a big fan.

Thanks for coming to my defence.

I guess im not the biggest hip-hop fan to be fair, i feel its a'' been there done that'' sitch for the majority i have aquired a soft spot for disco beats and minimal electro tho, but Im not really sure who to look for with that genre ?. I also know what id get if i went and saw Roni Size or Krafty Kuts, I know that Voodoo has dececnt line ups ..but that place is just a bit too large!! The size of the Masque is brilliant and it would be ashame to see it lost to the more mainstream artists, I mean what the HELL was Ian Brown doing there!!!

Ok if you want me to ''pick the bones'' out of them I will, Ive got nothing against Erol Alkan, Peterson ..and at a shove Dave Clarke but it just seems you like your Hip-Hop which is fair enough, its just not for me. Groove Armada are predictable, Yoda-Im not that down with Hip-hop .Krafty Kuts-Breaks and hip hop ..not my swene. Hi Contrast - Drum and Base is just too heavy for me. Your right tho there have been the few exceptions. Like i asked in the first place has the quantity of quality dropped?

Personally i'm immensely pleased with the more urban, hip hop drum and bass direction of late. Soon drum and bass will take over the world entirely and kill off dull dull dull house music forever and ever and ever, i can't believe i ever liked it. I've seen the light now though and it's a big blue neon light saying D&B.

sahsa is over rated, the couple of times i've seen he's not been that good!

i have abelton and i don't really like it as a dj tool it's boring using it, i think its better used as a production tool or for playing your own tracks in a live situation , i would not play other people's music using abelton as none of the tracks are yours and abelton mixes for you, it's a bit of a cop out! i'd never pay a lot of money to watch somebody mousing it up!

Sasha can fuck right off, he does fuck all with Ableton anyway.

I would like to see more house at Chibuku, but I guess Circus caters for a large portion of that in Liverpool thesedays, leaving Chibuku to be more experimental etc. You can't knock what they are doing.

I used to love sasha but last time I saw him he bored me into leaving the club. He was playing viva/fundacion at space, using ableton, dull as fuck, mylo style riffy house music. he keep doing this same looped drum roll build up thing that sounded good the first time but was boring and predictable when he was doing it every 5 minutes. I'd definitely go to see him again but i wouldnt hold much hope in it actually being any good.

i'm not dismissing it and i can see it's potential i did use it in at collage in a degree course in sound production but i prefer to play my own tracks and re-edits to give me an edge! i'm also not bored of mixing with vinyl and cd's yet. i also prefer the interaction with physically mixing 2 or 3 tracks together and using an mpc along side to add some improvised randomness to the equation! 8)

well no...just because artists you like arnt playing chibuku as regularly as you like it doesnt mean the quality is dropping...i love hip hop/d'n'b and ive never seen a bad artist from these genres play chibuku before, if dave clarke and francis k are more your thing really try voodoo, ive been to a few and normally there in the academy 2 which is theatre sized and gets a good atmosphere...and as much is a like chibuku, they dont have a fuck off green laser!!

[yeah me too, skeewif - man of constant sorrow and his new remix of roger sanchez - lost float my boat most

Man of Constant Sorrow is boss la! Got it about a year back and fookin lvoe it. It starts of on a proggy kind of vibe but once it kicks back in after the long breakdown its got a blinding rhythm and beat - love it!
Have a listen to his remix of Roog and Greg's Uber on Toolroom Trax. Thats on a similar note to Skeewif. I also find his remix of Deepgroove's Acid House Music quite pleaasing to the ears.
His new remix of Rogers new tune is also top draw, with some lovely acid sounds. More on a Buick Project kind of tip.
