I know this should be in 'other clubs' but bear with me here...
Our old friends who established the Magnet as Liverpool's coolest joint have moved en masse to sunny Croatia. I was priveledged to spend an amazing weekend with them and have come back inspired.
If you dont know, they are organising a festival in Zadar (where basketball was invented!) which looks as hot as the weather. Sunshine sounds will be provided by Mr Scruff, Reel People, Quantic, Alice Russell, Kelvin Brown, Michael Rutten, Eddy + Yannah, Overproof, Stuart Patterson, Luke Unabomber, Jigsaw, our own Phat Phil, Kwinzola and Illson, plus loads more.
I've checked out the venues being used and they couldn't be better. The sublime Garden is a stunning outdoor bar that evokes memories of Ibiza at its best.
A wooden ship with a full party going on will ferry dancers from the Garden in Zadar accross the Adriatic to the main venue in gorgeous Petracane. Here you will discover an outdoor live stage right by the sea, which will have the sun going down right behind it.
As the night draws on the action will then switch to the adjacent club. I had a sneak preview of this great space. It is being fitted out with a proper sound system by the guy who brought Funktion One to Britain. The room is round with very Magnet-esque seating around the sunken dancefloor. The club was legendary before the civil war, just like how the Sink club was lovingly transformed into the Magnet, the same team are breathing new life into this fantastic space as you read this.
If you can make this festival, do it. There will be a large contingent of very friendly faces and you will not find a better place for a party. Croatia is beautiful, get out there before it gets toooo popular. Split is down the road and is another gorgeous seaside city with real history. Mountains surround the area, there are literally hundreds of islands, villages and waterfalls for you to explore and the weather is good. Some adventurous folk prefer to fly to nearby Italy and wind their way through Venice before making the short hop to Croatia.
I spoke to Ishfaq, a British producer who fell in love with Croatia. He said to me, 'Six of us came on holiday, only two went back home.' It isn't the tagline of a teenie horror movie, rather a sign of how inspiring and addictive this place is.
Sorry for going all evangelical on your a$$e$, but I sincerely think you should consider making a last minute booking for the Garden Festival this week. I am, and I've only just got back from there!
The GARDEN GET-TOGETHER, ZADAR, CROATIA. JUNE 2nd 3rd and 4th
Tickets are ludicrously cheap at £25 for the whole weekend!! Drinks arent pricey either.
Easyjet now flies to Split which is 1-2 hrs from Zadar or Wizz Air to Split or Rieka. I took Wizz Air and it was reasonably priced and on time. Went from Luton, popped Caggy the Ka in the long term car park and went for it. Accomodation was great, right by the beach, breakfast served until well into the afternoon, balconies, the works.
MOVE QUICKLY!!! For details go to www.thegardenfestival2006.com or www.thegardenzadar.com
Sorry for the huge advert here, but I'm letting you know for your own sakes!
