Roc Raider has started his own annual battle comp and it sounds boss. First of all it's ran by an official 'Grandmaster' and one of the greatest DJ's that ever did it. Secondly the format looks ill!

Basically the spin is instead of judges (some of whom are just 'names' who have shown either shocking bias or worse!....lack of knowledge about the skills being shown)......you get a 'gong' and you're gone!

Pure and true '8 mile' style knock outs where if the crowd isn't feeling you, you get fucked right off.

it seems to have been the format that really brought the show to life. Because the DJs were literally surviving by pure DJ skills, they had to come out all guns blazing - if not, you're gonged out.

Keep your eyes peeled for this going global, 'cos if it does, I for one would like to see this put on in Chibuku or somewhere.

The Grudge match between ’97 DMC US Champion DJ Slyce and New Music Seminar (and Gong Battle contestant) DJ Supreme was one of the many highlights of the evening. Their battle was an entertaining one despite some of the theatrics, (some involving Supreme not only playing but beat juggling the Donna Summer classic, “Upside Down” on an upside down turntable.)

   :D
