...The Southport Weekender. I simply experienced some of the best music I have ever heard last night. At one point there was Rainer Truby, Kerri Chandler and Danny Krivit (who was playing a brilliant true garage set) all on simultaneously. It was like having Root Down, Shelter and The Paradise Garage all under one roof! In Southport!!

The music I heard made 90% of clubs sound so stale and un-adventurous. To say I didnt hear a song all night that was anything less than 'best tune ever' material is absolutly no exageration. Juergen from Jazzanova blew my mind with some of the most amazing dancefloor jazz, soul, techno and broken beats. He was followed by the awesome Rainer Truby who played the most forward thinking house music and in his words 'boogie music'. The two of them are simply some of the best Djs on the planet, true masters of their craft. 8)

In The Powerhouse Frankie Knuckles redeemed himself in my eyes, and in the Conniseurs Corner Danny Krivit allowed me a taste of an era of music that I so desperatly wish I had a closer connection to as he went way back into his amazing disco, soul and funk collection. A priviledge. :D

Kerri Chandler kept us rocking til 8.30pm with his mix of house from all eras. If you havent heard this guy go seek him out. As a DJ per se he isnt the greatest, but its the way he sings, dances and plays keys over the music. He will often stop the music to tell an anecdote or to explain the reason he is playing a record! And this is no intimate setting, the room is way bigger than the Courtyard! He made it feel like 'An Audience with Kerri Chandler'. You know like an Audience with Barry Manilow but with house music! :!:

Also think about this. I had such a good time hearing all these great acts, but i still missed out on Theo Parrish, Gilles, Snowboy, Matty Heilbron, Frankie Feliciano, Morales, Dego, Benji B, Norman Jay,etc. There is toooooo much good music at this event. If you truly love dance music you have to experience it... XXX

Rainer played the tightest set Ive heard in a long, long while at Sick Trumpet.
Incredible tunage, certainly opened my ears..... which also hasnt happened in a long, long time.

Which reminds me there's quite a few things I havnt had in a long, long while  :(

i'm so lucky to be me...
considering i was planning on spending saturday night in doing work, by midnight (thanks to some very special mates), i found my self boogying in pontins in sowie la!!!

i'd never been the weekender before, and i was absolutely blown away. It sounds so cheesy to tell someone, but it really did make me realise just how important music is to all of us.

It was mad though, i spent the beginning of the night listening to stuff i'm really into now-jazzanova, did exactly what it said on the tin-and more. i had seen them before but they were really on form and had the whole of the bicardi bar salsa-ing away! Next Rainer Truby more than equalled Jurgen's performance, playing a lot more 'boogie!' as he calls it, than he did the night before at sick trumpet.

Danny Krivit was..well...Danny Krivit....nuff said. 8)
But the man who stole the show for me was Kerri Chandler.
It was almost like going full circle-after listening to so much eclectic music beforehand, to listen to some proper soulful house music-the reason why and how i got into all of this in the first place. Kerri Chandler really was taking us on his own musical journey, not to mention his seamless improvisation singing and playing over the music. By 8am the Powerhouse was rocking, and Kerri was in full flow, playing anthem after anthem such as To be in Love, and the infamous Frankie Knuckles Your Love.

What an awesome weekend.
All that and i only spent £1.29 on an mcmuffin on the way home!

Pleasure seeing you out again Phil. We'l have to swap tunes.

Saturday highlights:
Jazzanova (add superlatives)
Rainer Truby (set of the week-end)
Danny Krivit (caught last hour. Hearing him ride the eqs on Optimistic was unforgettable)
Benji B (how dare someone so young have such knowledge and taste in music)

Chatting with Rainer - lovely geezer. He liked Liverpool (fellt the vibe) even though his presence was hardly acknowledged in the fashion it should have. . . . Your loss.

Sunday:
Meeting Carl from Loose Ends. This guy wrote "Hanging on a String( contemplating)". Life rarely gets better.

Zippy, you have to go. You know that little do in Frodsham? Well its better!

Ruby and Johnny, a true pleasure sharing the dancefloor with you both. :D

Must echo what you both said there. Ruby, it is indeed the past, present and future of soulful dance music under one roof. Its all there, what you listen to now, what you listened to then. The very best in dance music today, and the sounds that got us all here. And Johnny, Rainer is indeed a top top guy. A gastronome of the highest order as well!!!
