Chibuku presents Bodytonic
Tayor (Bodytonic), Jon Averill (Backlash)
NIc James (Pogo), Eoin Cregan (Stereotonic)

Tis April the 1st and its definitely no joke. The Barfly loves a good roadblock and heres another.... Its been a while since MYLO has been down, having recovered from his ankle/ear/near death experiences over christmas he is back with Label mates Linus loves who are earning a very good name for them selves playing their own distinctive electro vibe. Futurebound has somehow found time in between smashing clubs in Tokyo and trying to keep up with demand for his new American Booty track to batter his little black book for us and has assembled a top DNB lineup for the loft. Bryan G hs been running tings London way and beyond for some time now.. his Movement events are where Chibuku resident Marky found his feet with the UK dancefloors..... Dan Fresh.. He won Best Producer in Knowledge 2 years on the trot, fronted Bad Company, his track "The Nine" won DNB arenas "best dnb tune of all time award" as well as being highly ranked in their top ten djs..he signed Pendulum to Breakbeat Kaos and as if thats not enough he co owns Dogsonacid.com the worlds busiest dnb portal. I think you get the picture. Mickey Finns : Some Justice was the first record we remember buying. Mickey started DJing in the late eighties and became well known with the advent of the Acid House movement in South London. In the early nineties breakbeat and loose jungle techno was filling his record boxes as he travelled the length and breadth oh the UK. Such was the demand for his skills at this time by huge events all around the country he was even strarting to catch private planes between gigs. Mickey's production talents started off with Biting Back - She's Breaking Up then partnered Gavin and Claudio for Urban Shakedown - Some Justice. Nowadays Mickey travels the world and throws down his vibe in countries like Japan, USA, Australia, Holland, Ibiza, Germany, Finland, Israel and France to name just a few. He is still holding it down! For those of you who dont already know the Bodytonic boys then your in for a treat. Flying the flag for all good music across many different venues and guises across Dublins bustling city centre ...expect to see guests from Theo Parrish to LCD soundsystem to whatever takes their fancy down at their manor.. its a familiar concept but we will let them off... Hope you enjoy it.

Have also heard that Mylo's mixing is not the best - although suppose you're not really gonna be expecting Jeff Mills-esque genius - more of a party atmos with a few "obvious" tunes dropped.

Should be good.

Drop The Pressure??

i think if you cant mix after 6 or 7 months after you first played Chibuku then he definatly deservees a booing off the decks.
I cant understand if he was that terrible why Chibuku would get him back tho??
Is it purely out of respect because he is one of the most talented acts in dance music??

Put down more like, that tune's on par with house DJ's taking some sh#te pop tune from the likes of Leo Sayer and spending five minutes putting it through Abelton

I thought, going off their website, that Crazy P were meant to be playing this night. Has this been shelved?

He's just a name who gets punters in through the doors.

I've honestly got nothing against the fella personally but his set at Global Gathering was embarrasing....or at least i'd be mortified if it had been me considering it went out on live national radio too.

I read an interview with him on the DJ Times site where he basically admits that he can't DJ. Now knowing that fact, and also knowing that there are people paying up to £15 or whatever to go see him, surely there should be a guilty feeling that you're knowingly ripping people off.

Greed.

Tiga is another ropey DJ, it's not often that I see a so called 'established "star DJ" and think "I could do much better myself", but the same applys to him.

Fuckin' galloping horses.

Althought to be fair on Tiga, he has incredible taste in music and thats reflected in his sets. If the music is fantastic you'll forgive poor technique, but Mylo......

I think i'll give this one a miss.

I think that both Tiga & Mylo's strengths lie in production rather than Djing although from all accounts Tiga's sets are q.good as mentioned by Coakley.

Firstly i'd just like to say i'm not a fan of Mylo . His album sucks harder than scott mills. However, i will come to his defence.

Coakley mentioned he's admitted he can't mix and on Annie Mac's show a while ago he again said he couldn't mix (for future reference Annie also said she can't mix). When your playing quality tunes to an up-for-it crowd does it really matter if your mixing is 100% perfect??? I can think of 2 "superstar" dj's off the top of my head (tongy and oakie) that will charge at least twice as much to dj as Mylo but i've never heard anyone say they're ripping off clubbers.

I'd also like to point out that i ain't actually seen him dj so if if does traintrack most mixes and his sets are as crap as his album then please ignor my little rant above :P

As usual people are missing the point that there are 3 rooms in the Barlfy and we are offering serious quality underground tunage on this night.. the body tonic boys will be excellent and the dnb lineup is awesome...might i also add that if we were booking djs soley on their technical abilities we would be rather limited.. whilst there are a few john digweeds and c2c `s out there.. there are a lot more djs out there who we know who can rock a party without seamless mixing... Pedro Winter, Felix Da Housecat, Gilles Petersen to name just three.. Again.. you dont need to come if you dont like it but we think the lineup is balanced...

You're right Rich, the rest of the line up is decent, in particular the D'n'B as you mention.

I suppose the point people are trying to make is why book Mylo....to DJ? Especially when people have stated that they didn't really rate him the first time around.
I hope you don't find this insulting Rich, 'cos at the moment your nights are the sole reason I bother to stay in this country.

It's your perogative and you're obviously a very, very good promoter and so know a lot more than me on putting on a party, but (and I say this resapectfully) to namecheck the likes of Felix as a comparison doesn't make sense to me.

Felix and Giles Peterson have proved they have got it, over years, their taste in music the respect people have for them is concrete. They know how to build a set with (if I can use the cliche) 'peaks & troughs' and they know how to batter head and fuck with your emotions....and I have NEVER seen Felix fuck up a mix that badly to the extent that I have thought 'fucks i could do better!'

I don't really get the complaining...

Whenever it's the Monday after a 'name' dj has been on, most regulars are raving about it as it's given them more room upstairs or in the bar. (cf. the birthday last year)

If a big name gets new people in and they then have a wander and experience different stuff, I think that's cool myself. I've seen all kinds of stuff I'd never have bothered with if it wasn't for the way the masque is set up.

As long as it's not drum'n'bass, I'm too old for all that nonsense. :)

some mylo remixes are still killer, his re-rub of no more conversations by freeform five is awesome and his album was pretty good as well, it hasnt lost anything just cos loads of poepl mlike it. but, i dont want to hear him play drop the pressure again thoguh!

Mylo's cool, he is definitely good at what he does, and I reckon he is influential in pulling dance music back towards a stage where loads of people actually like it as well as thinking it is cool and relevant.

Anyone who went on the magnet/hustle boat party in 2004 and saw Dave Beer play Drop the Pressure might remember how the boat rocked so hard I thought it might sink! That tune is quality - its just been over played.

He isn't the best DJ mind, Erol and Annie MAc were both better than him when the three of them played last May

Any chance of whispering the words 'old skool set' in Mickey Finn's ears?
