Yes folks, it's that time again... head on over to http://www.samurai.fm/2types/play as there's a new show for you! So what's in it..?
Well, the guests for this session are from Manchester's Phuture Lounge collective - Dave Jones (aka Maddslinky/Zed Bias), Jonny Miller, Fyza and Dharmaone. The Phuture Lounge was set up in 2004 in the heart of Manchester, UK to enable the collective to have a base from which to unleash their creativity on the world. It seems that they've quietly been amassing a selection of albums from a variety of artists and 2006 is the year that they are going to let them drop. While I was there, I heard track after track that made my jaw drop, so I think we can safely say come the end of the year awards, you'll be voting for something from these guys! And Dave very kindly let me bring away a CDR or two of beats, so listen carefully...
Musically kicking off 2types in 2006 there's a gem from Birmingham's Chris Barker - a man to watch this year, no doubt - closely followed by a cut from the new Rich Medina album that shows he's much more than 'just' a spoken word artist... There's also a great remix of Princess from a good friend of the show, Ishfaq, forthcoming on Inphusion. Just before Christmas I had the opportunity to spend a long weekend over in Switzerland to play at the launch party for the 'Filewile Remixed' project, to which I also contributed a remix, and I grabbed a few minutes with half of Filewile, Andreas Ryser, to chat about the project and the scene in Switzerland.
Stepping up the pace, there's a cut from the new digital label Loven Records from Rhody and Kaydee and a hotly anticipated release from Sick Trumpet Records, Tim Landslide's 'Conundrum' - the show features the Phil Asher mix of this broken beast. Speaking of broken beasts, I couldn't resist slipping in 'Once, Twice' from the Bugz in the Attic crew as we all wait to get our hands on the LP later this year. Jafrosax has produced a new LP out in March on Pantone, with production from Jazztronik and Yukihiro Fukutomi and vocals from Vikter Duplaix and Yukimi Nagano and I've included 'In the Morning' in the show. The LP also feaures a cover of Galaxy 2 Galaxy's 'Hi Tech Jazz' so I couldn't resist digging for the live version of the original!
There's a deep track from local film producer John Clarke who's recorded a really nice jazzy vibe with Ian Knowlson to produce 'Tarot Reader', taken from John's forthcoming independent file 'Comndemned Man'. Watch out for that! Then we're into the Nostalgia 77 Octet and a new track from Paul Murphy which drops on Afro Art in March. Then we're into interview territory and you've got four Phuture Loungers for the price of one. Watch out for the 'Untitled as Yet' track from Maddslinky after the interview with Dave. Make sure you've got that on a proper system - it's a destroyer! And that's your lot. Hope you like it - get in touch and let me know what you make of it.
One more announcement to make: from next month you'll be able to get more 2types more often! I'm introducing a show called 2types mixtape which will be a shorter show with less chat and more tunes. You'll still get the usual full 2types show with guests and interviews every 6 - 8 weeks as well.
Until such time... hope 2006 is a cracker for you.
Tim.
