Leo Belchetz (Chibuku Shake Shake)
Chart: September 2004
1. Glitch – Rock On [Nano]
A ‘Da Funk’ bassline runs underneath phenomenally infectious blippy keys.
2. Various Artists – Bad Acid LP Sampler [MFF]
Cuts from Joshua, Tripwire, and my pick Jimmy 19, make this a hot package.
3. Cassioware & The OG’s – I Wanna See You Freak [Black House Funky Soul]
A soulful vocal weaves between samples of Chip E’s seminal ‘Like This’.
4. Inland Knights – Stitch Up EP [Drop]
One of the Knights’ most subtle and beautiful works to date.
5. Three Kings ft. Jaygun & Bashy – Shake Dat Booty [Coco Machete]
Only just picked up CCM001 – lucky for me it still sounds fresh!
6. DJ T – Radiator/Robot Riot [2020 Vision]
’Robot Riot’ is the one for me – bleeps and pops on top of electro-tinged house.
7. Lisa Shaw – Let It Ride (Remixes) [Naked]
Swag’s dub is the rough diamond among this prim and proper set of mixes.
8. East Coast Boogiemen – Early Werks EP [After School]
These boompty numbers may be early ECB but they’re new to me.
9. Style Of Eye – Gioco [Classic]
’Gioco’ is tribal peak-time gear, but it’s ‘Run Things’ that’s caught my ear.
10. Alexkid ft. Lissette Alea – Don’t Hide It (Acid Reworks) [F Comm]
AK & LA team up again to create a Hardfloor-esque follow-up to ‘Come With Me’.
11. Ben Morgan – Jazz Cabbage [CD-R]
Nice horn action on this deep and dubby, yet musical cut.
12. Cajmere – Nude [Gem]
Caj cuts up Prince’s ‘Controversy’ in his inimitable slamming techno-house style.
13. Filthy Hot Jizz – Ch-Check It Out [Leg]
The Beasties get the Chi-town boot treatment.
14. Rob Brown & Leon Louder – Strange Daze EP [Odds & Ends]
Rob and Leon debut with a couple of really solid house tracks.
15. Designer Music – Good Girls [Planet E]
Carl Craig’s percussive Goodmen sampler gets a timely re-release.
16. Kano –It’s A War (Instrumental Re-Edit) [White]
Serge Santiago and Tom Neville rework the 1980 Italo cut in suitably camp style.
17. Vernon Douglas meets Tyler Lewis – Lerv-Vern EP [Deepen]
With its driving acid sounds and bumping bassline, ‘Right-Right’ is the one for me.
18. Chromeo – Me & My Man (The Juan Maclean Remix) [Turbo/V2]
Unlike the other mixes on the 12”, this doesn’t stray into electro-pap territory.
19. Freaks – 80s Throwback (Greenskeepers Remix) [Wash House]
James Curd with the latest in the never-ending series of mixes from the MFF LP.
20. I:Cube – Fr33z EP [Versatile]
Look out for Maurice Fulton’s lovely take on ‘Vacuum Jackers’.
This month I have rediscovered:
Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley & The Voices Of Life – The Word Is Love [Silk Entertainment 1997]
What a vocal, what a bassline, what a tune! Still doing the business big time.
