I'm thinking about buggering off to Australia next year for 3-6 months. Not sure what time of year I'm going, but I HAVE to be in this country for June (World Cup) and July (best mate's wedding of which I am best man) so it will probably be about August/September.

Whilst I am out there, I would like to put some small nights on just for the hell of it. If I make some wedge out of it to help with my travels, all the better. I will also be trying to grab a few DJ slots of anykind anywhere I can whether it be bar pub club or beach (beach I wish!).

My plans are at a very very early stage and I would be grateful for any advice on absoutely anything to do with my masterplan, from travelling around Oz and where to go - to putting smalls nights on over there and who to speak to.

My dream trip may also include stops in New Zealand, Thailand and maybe even America. I have a lot of planning to do!

Please feel free to post any advice or opinion on here. 8)

Good luck first of all...

If you want to put on some nights then go for it. But your probably best sticking to Sydney. This isnt to say that the rest of OZ dont like house music. But Sydney is the only city worth staying in for a long period of time. Dont get me wrong the country is fantastic , but the west coast is abit to conservative , but has amazing beaches / sunsets.

Adelaide , Melbourne are supposed to be good , along with cairns etc.

Enjoy your time , because id go straight back there now if i could

Melbourne had the best and most diverse music scene when I went, followed by Brisbane - they both seemed to have more of an underground scene than Sydney...

Great Idea mate.......

My tips would be - Avoid Cairns, its boring and the nightlife is awful.
Brisbane and Melbourne have a very diverse and underground scene going on, lots of local DJs and acts that are well worth going to see, as well as internationals that are there on a regular basis.
I spent most of my time in Sydney, which I really enjoyed however I did regret in some respects after getting to Melbourne and realising that I would have much preferred to spend longer in that city. There is probably more opportunity to get a gig in Sydney however, due to the size of the city and the number of clubs/bars around. I would suggest the Kings Cross area, popular with backpackers and locals and there are a few good bars down there. Otherwise I would simply read some of the free listing papers that you can pick up in HMV and give the places a call.....a mate of mine did that and got a spot quite easily. Any suggestions that I might make will probably be pointless by the time you get there as the places that were good when I was there this year may well be crap next year.

New Zealand is a great place to go.......would definitely recommend it.

And, without doubt, you have to go to Thailand. My mate played in a bar on the beach for a full moon party when he was there. When I went there seemed to be quite a lot of European DJs around at the full moon party......HOWEVER.....it is quite overrated and there are far too many bars that play commercial RnB which was depressing to say the least. Its still worth going to if you are in Thailand at the right time, its always very very messy.

Want anything more specific, give me a shout.

Good Luck!!

NZ: do the Kiwi Experience - the green bus aka 'the 'fuck truck'.
Oz: melbourne is a must. do not miss Fraser island! sydney: go 'Kink' nightclub on Pitt St.
Bangkok: stay at D&D Inn on Khao San Rd.

Thanks for your input chaps. Most appreciated.

I can confirm that I will definetly be going to Melbourne as I have an old friend over there to visit. I'll be sure to have a look round there for potential party venues.

More ideas please! 8)

Wow thats wierd.

I have an aunt just outside Melbourne and she's always saying "if you're bored in England why not move over here for a few months and i'll get you a job sorted".

I'm actually saving up to go in the winter too. My plans were pretty much the same. ry my hand over there DJ'ing. I've heard theres a pretty good Hip-Hop scene over there.

Sounds like we have the exact same ideas here so if you are deffinately going this winter let me know well in advance and we'll have to exchange tips and information.
Either PM me or mail me thecoakley@hotmail.com.

My 2 best mates are over in Australia at the moment travelling around, they've been there since January and will be there till October, driving round and basically having too much fun. Lucky bastards.
