I'd love to say it was Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue'.
But it was "Bright Eyes" by Simon & Garfunkel. The purchase was inspired by watching Watership Down.

On a similar tip, in Glasgow I heard a mate blagging to some random girl that the first album he bought was "Exile on Main Street" by the Rolling Stones.
Needless to say, I had to advise her that his actual first purchase was "Like a Virgin" by Madonna.

I didn't start buying music until I was about 15. First ever record shopping trip I bought two 12" records, and I forget which one I bought first so it would either be:
Artemisia - Bits And Pieces
or
Pizzaman - Sex On The Streets
which I still own & enjoy to this day

First Single (12") - Art of Trance - Madagascar
I love that tune, lots of happy memories :)
I remember my second ever night out clubbing (proper) in Garlands, this was the last tune of the night..... ah the memories...
My first 12" was the Felix remixes of Garbage 'Androgony' fairly cool as first records go, tho it wasn't too long ago as I am a relative late starter as far a Dj'in is concerned.
First ever music bought was probably extremely silly, can't remember what it was tho, honest. :D
I do however remember one of my earliest favourite tunes being Ian Dury's 'Hit me with your Rhythm Stick' just because of the lyrics! And Madness stuff...
Always had good taste me!

SHAKIN STEVENS - "Green door" probably.I was well into rock n roll when i was really young tho so my mum bought me that on 7inch.
Then went onto Ice T and Kool Moe Dee and all the Breakdance/hip Hop stuff about 8yrs!
Electric boogaloo Soundtrack was "probably" the first i saved up for and bought myself.
Or it coudlve been a 12 inch with the best Hip Hop tracks around at the time!
"The Message" ,Sugarhill gang etc...
