Coldplay comeback no match for animated frog
24 May 2005 - 10:40:06

The emerging ringtones markets looks set to make its mark on the singles chart this weekend, with Crazy Frog’s Axel F outselling Coldplay’s Speed Of Sound by a margin of more than three copies to one, according to early retail reports.

The Gut-released animated character started life on the internet and gained popularity via millions of downloaded ringtones, and has recently benefitted hugely from extensive television advertising over recent weeks. Its success will be a blow to Parlophone, who looked otherwise certain to claim pole position with Coldplay’s comeback single.

Imagine a scenario where MTV etc became so reliant on Jamster advertising revenues that they couldnt live without them, imagine a scenario where this method of advertising lost its credibility and effectiveness due to people simply switching over/off more and more as these stupid adverts continue. Imagine all the other major advertisers fucked it off and we were stuck with Jamster. ouch,

Typical journo market research hysteria.

The ringtones are being advertised to death, as the creators are wise enough to know the frog/dragon/bird are a phenomena. Like Pokemon and Tamagochi before them, they have a very small window of cool. While fads used to last a year or two, now they are old in a month. Kids are more fickle and a damn sight more savvy than the wannabee lotion dross that populate most marketing departments plugging at them,

Its the rolling sales oft the album X&Y that matter, not the single.

i dare say watchdogs such as ICT will no doubt intervene with this Crazy Frog thing sooner or later, it really is on the tv way too much and everyone seems to be complaining about it now.... it wont last forever anyway, as mentioned this is a total, all out fad and will peter out just like things mentioned above Tamagochi, Pokemon, Furbys etc etc.... hey even Yo-Yo's died again after seemingly coming back from the dead....

Kill ringtones, kill telesales, and kill banks.

Im putting my money in a safe under my bed from now on, and i aint bought a tv, just to keep any sanity i have left.

a short sweet reply of "send it me by post" leaves most telesales people in a muddle too.

Crazy Frog is a million times better than Coldplay.

Or U2.

I hope he goes on to have a long and rewarding career.

LOL, just what I was going to say. In fact, I think it should be subsidised as it's performed such a splendid public service in keeping those simpering piss bulbs off the top of the charts.
