Leo Belchetz (Chibuku Shake Shake)
Chart: May 2005
1. Roísín Murphy – Sequins EP 2 [Echo]
Roísín on the mic, Herbert on the dials. Thanks to Tim Scott for the tip-off!
2. Henrik Schwarz – Leave My Head Alone Brain [Sunday-Music]
House, ambient and unclassifiable mixes on this dubbed-out psychedelic trip.
3. Carlton Banks – Story Time With Carlton Banks [Coco Machete]
Glacial Detroit grooves and nasty acid monsters - are you sitting comfortably?
4. Solid Groove – This Is Sick [Front Room]
Glitchy beats, spacey breakdowns and a relentless bassline make for an apt title.
5. Rithma – We Rock & Roll [Utensil]
Jacob London make a fine job of improving an already superb original.
6. Philp Eno – Break Out The Paddle [Select]
Demarkus Lewis manages to bring out the inner beauty of this Plain Jane.
7. Style Of Eye – Remix Sampler [Classic]
Style Of Eye revisits former glories with Freaks and Radio Slave in for the ride.
8. Timeless Banditz / Matt J – Untitled [Lost My Dog]
The dub-influenced ‘Head First’ really standing out from this good package.
9. Martin Venetjoki feat. Derek Conyer – Really Don’t Stop [Dust Traxx]
The Lawnchair Generals’ old-school extended breakdown works a treat.
10. Lavish Habits – Clap Yo Feetz [Select]
Paul Paredes & Scott Pace making feetz clap with a hypnotic hip-house re-rub.
11. DJ M3 – Tragic Queen [Green Gorilla Lounge]
Q-Burns’ mix is good, but the unusual vocal is the icing on the cake!
12. Justin Martin & Sammy D – Swamp Thang [Dirtybird]
Comedy house that still packs a punch on the dancefloor.
13. Deep House Souldiers – In My Bag [Lowdown]
Aquatic deep vibes here – the sound of a summer’s day! ECB add some bounce.
14. ‘Various’ Artists – U-Freqs Allstars Vol. VII [U-Freqs]
Big Hair’s covering of all musical bases means I’ve been on this for months.
15. Qubes – No Parking On the Dancefloor [Cadang]
This remix of Midnight Star’s 1983 hit enforces the law of the floor.
16. Dubble D feat. Flora Purim – Switch [2020 Vision]
This fine track from the great album gets a good seeing to from its namesake act.
17. David Duriez – The Ripost EP [Duriez]
These chuggy, tech-house tools have a strong Swag flavour to them.
18. Jesse Rose – Let’s Start Again EP [Dubsided]
Jesse and pals are putting out a bank-busting amount of good music right now.
19. Patrick Turner – Royal Remix [Tech House Giants]
This time it’s Prince getting the feelgood house treatment to great effect.
20. Switch – Just Bounce 2 This [Freerange]
Picked this up as much for Fred Everything’s sublime take on ‘Get Ya Dub On’.
This month I have rediscovered:
Paul Johnson – So Much [Dust Traxx 1998]
The cheeky lyrics and dirty picture disc make this release well worth dusting down!
