i was just wondering if anyone has had much experience of ordering records from the states.... i.e. ive been looking at various websites (record company websites, submerge, record shops in general) and even with huge postage costs the sh!t works out much cheaper than here, ...but what i wanna know is, do you get screwed on import taxes or some cr*p like that ? and how long does it take usually, any recommendations for shops with good service
if i'm gonna have to give a wedge to gordon brown & co then its probably not worth the hassle, just its tempting what with the selection and it working out about 5 quid a twelve
any advice before i go and put an order in?

I know someone who only ever shops at Dancetracks on the net. He swears by it.

I order shed loads via quannum.com and have never had any problems, in fact, the service I get is awesome.... and cheaper compared to prices on this side of the pond!! Dont get any extra charges other than the hefty postal charges, but thats to be expected (but like you said it still works out cheaper).
Also, after ordering it takes about 5 days on average to get to me, which is a lot better than most records shops here in the UK.
All I'd say though, is e-mail the US companies before shipping and make sure the price you are paying them is all you have to pay. Ive dealt with one place that didnt inform me that I had to pay handling charges once it got into the UK, as I only paid for it getting to the UK!

thanks for the response guys! i was definately thinking dancetracks for any new-yorky house-y type gear, submerge for detroitian stuff and then various record company websites which often seem to have 12"s for $5
