Although he's not the biggest, the best for vocal talent and delivery is Guru, no 2 ways about it. He hooks anyone in.

Doggystyle is my favorite album ever. Pretty much everything Snoop's done since it has been poor though, with the odd half decent track here and there.

doggystyle and illmatic were both wicked albums. in fact, two of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time. i dont listen to as much now, but from what i can tell, neither mc has kept up any sort of standard after those first lps. a shame!

So true, I remember being so gutted when I bougt tha doggfather and compared to doggystyle it was lame.

personally I don't think G Rap will ever reach the standards of late 80's early 90's to many have jumped on the gravy train! Though if you look hard enough there are still plenty of unknowns out there doing their bit for originality they just get swamped amongst all the wannabe's, suppose its the same for all music nowadays.

Anyway I have completely forgotten what I was rattling on about now so I shall stop and maybe do some work for the last 15 mins, ha ha, not a chance!

I suppose a 'true' gangsta rapper can only make one good album cos they when they become famous then it takes them out of the ghetto which is the very thing they're rappin' about

nothing to do with rap music

but...

my mate from back home MC'd with EZ at a garage rave in romford last weekend. after a few visits to the north and venturing to chibuku, tribal etc i thought i had managed to convert him.

conversion not complete it seems...

between KRS-1 or Guru but then i didnt like the BDP when they were around at the time of Gangstarr as it was too TUTORISH ! "Kids stay in school as its cool " etc ! Boring when i can listen to "Just to get a rep" ! GURU Muthafucker!

Yeh GURU was really tutorish aswell but not to the extent of KRS 1 at the time. And he shouted alot whereas GURU was far cooler in his tone and pitch of MCing.
Not much of an debate back then as other than Cool Moe Dee and Rico Suave they were all good.

mate, ll should be on the list, fair enuf he has done some poor rnb stuff, but the man was hiphop in the late 80s and early 90s. most of the greatest rappers have fallen off, look at rakim, chcuk d and even my own fav krs, there not puttin out stuff as releveant as they were. its just unfortunately ll has 2 b more public with it. he doesnt deserve to win, but he deserves a mention

Mc Grand Puba

brand nubian shit was excellent, and his solo stuff is arguably better.

his flow, his lyirics, as good now as when he was 20, and his voice is just... yeah... all you other mcs can't even do this... if you want things done right then give gran pu a ca'al, weloooowiiiiieeeee

Grand Puba is as good as any rapper on that poll.

I voted for Chuck D though.

ooooh. Charlie 2na? he's gooooood.... as is Roots Manuva, vocally and lyrically, I loikes them a lot.

On the M.C thing I would say it has to be: Biggie Smalls or B.I.G.

Due to his skill at being crude & clever at the same time, you could play the 1st L.P "Ready To Die" to a non - Hip - Hop person & they can connect with what he is saying.

The man was just an one off, he even said that he was "..Black & ugly" thats arrogance. Then in the same song he would talk about trying to blag fine girls with large breasts. From his 'flow' to his size he was a one off. True Superstar.

My recommended track being the ultra dark: "Suicidal Thoughts" from his first L.P "Ready To Die".

Its NOT just about a bling Gansta more real social commentary.

Dragon.
