How much more stupid could I have been??
Got a call from some guy called Barry from Mocha the other day telling me he could get me a deal on my phone upgrade. I was a bit dubious but he sweet talked me round and I gave him all my details including bank number and address, DOB etc... My phone was meant to come today but hasn't arrived yet so I rang O2 and they said they have no idea who rang me but there's something on my account about an upgrade today.
What if that bloke was some scam and I've now given him all my details so he can spend all my money!!! Then again if somethings on my account I could just be being impatient.
Has anyone else heard of Mocha Mocho?? They get deals on upgrades for most mobile networks? Please??

If 02 say there's something about an upgrade then don't worry too much, but keep an eye on your direct debits just in case. You should never give your bank details out to any one that calls you on your mobile, unless you gave them the number i.e. your bank etc.
I work in a bank (anti fraud) and you wouldn't believe the ammount of sh.it that can go on once someone starts mis-using your bank details.
Do I win £5?

Another thing to watch out for is free phone upgrades which then tie you into another 12 month contract. This sharp practice is all the rage at the moment with all the phone companies.

I thought that applied to all phone upgrades? With the 'free' phone being the carrot that gets you to sign for another 12 months.

For people who have a contract+ are due for an upgrade, if you decide not to get the upgrade you can ask your service provider for the dollars instead.
I'm not getting an upgrade so am entitled to £180 cashback because I spend £45 a month on my contract.
It varies for contact to contract.
Or you can get the best possible phone that they're offering you+ whack it on eBay

Carphone Warehouse have tried to pull a flanker on me, offering me a free phone upgrade after 6 months. What they didn't say is that started off another 12 months contract.
On pressing on this, they conceded this was the catch. But that was after no little prodding.

I'd deffo watch out with people asking for bank details over the phone, i got a call from someone stating they where from Egg (my bank), and then then asked for my bank details and address but didnt say what for?
When i confusing laughed saying that if they were from Egg surely they'd already have the bank details and wouldn't be asking for them, the person went silent and hung up.
Grrrrrrrr.

i worked in a call centre over summer where i needed to get peoples bank details and it was totally legit.
and it was actually a really good deal and if people signed up they really did end up saving money.
so it aint bad all the time
saying that, i dont reckon i'd be comfortable giving my details out to a complete stranger.........it's shit that we've got to be cynical bout these things
