Leo Belchetz (Chibuku Shake Shake)
Chart: October 2004
1. Sean Dimitrie feat. Tim Fuller – So Hot [Odori]
A great vocal runs over an insanely paced two-step house groove.
2. Blaze feat. Palmer Brown – My Beat (Solid Groove Remixes) [Slip ‘n’ Slide]
A fresh, tough angle from SG shows there’s life in this much-rehashed track yet.
3. Inland Knights – This Belongs To You EP [Drop]
At last – a sax vs electronic track to rival Duriez’ ‘Get On Down’ – sublime.
4. Toka Project – City Loop EP [Lowdown]
Superb collection of stripped-down grooves aimed squarely at the dancefloor.
5. Dave Barker – Rococoa EP [Classic]
Dave proves he’s much more than Brett’s studio bitch on this solo release.
6. Secondo – We Got It Like That [Soul Jazz]
Funky, bleepy, cut-up broken beats that remain eminently danceable.
7. DJ Technics – Gabryelle [Code Red]
Echoes of ‘Jaguar’ here, useful house mix by the appallingly named Muthafunkaz.
8. Adam B – Make A Toast [CDR]
This bumpy cut is the young producer’s most promising work by a country mile.
9. BRS feat. Rachel Roberts – Stop Playing Around [Flat & Round]
Isn’t deep house supposed to be boring? Green Goddess mix is my choice.
10. Dj Sneak – Que Pasa [Magnetic]
Sneak retains the party feel but shaves off the commercial edge on his Beats Mix.
11. DJ Bango From Japan – You Got Soul [Shhh!]
I think it’s one of the Freaks boys behind this Eric B & Rakim boot.
12. Jeff Samuel – Windux [Morris/Audio]
Jeff proves that minimal house can be fun.
13. Mike Dixon – Chicago Flashback EP [Bumpin City]
Mike mashes up Michael Jackson with Kraftwerk, then takes on Bowie and more!
14. The Electric Ecstasy Club – Jesus Loves The Acid [Bugged Out!]
Well if it’s good enough for the J-man, it’s good enough for me. Acieeeed!
15. Secondo – It’s Any Late Time/Discombabulate [Dreck]
I’ll be watching this artist with interest – this stuff is off the meat hook!
16. Various – Mad Dog 20/20 EP [Peaches]
Just straight-up good fun house music. I’m told ECB may have had a hand in this.
17. DJ Hush – Bumpty Pants [White]
The Digital Underground classic gets booted, complete with slowed down section.
18. Teddy Douglas – Bombelaya [Basement Boys]
Ten minutes of tribal carnival beats that avoid nasty prog darkness – useful.
19. Ben Morgan – Random Events EP [CDR]
House music’s Oxford genius comes up with his most aesoteric work to date.
20. Community Housin’ – Camel’s Hump EP [3am]
The Manchester label provide three useful techy tools.
This month I have rediscovered:
Cypress Hill – Black Sunday LP [Columbia]
OK, so I’m not playing it out but it’s barely left my stereo this month!
